"First Editions" is one of my favorite episodes from the fourth season. That's the one were Alice and Henry tell Dennis that he must throw out his comic books. Being a comic book collector myself, it always makes me cringe that they didn't know how valuable these funny books had the potential to be.

Well, surprisingly enough Dennis learns from Mr. Wilson about first edition books and how they can be valuable and he applies that knowledge to his comic book collection, selling them to his friends and telling Tommy that it might be worth something more in the future. How right he would be.

Also, surprising is the adult in the episode Mr. Dewey, who is a comic book collector. I wonder how many adults back then were really into comics or was that just fiction on the part of the writers. Mr. Dewey might be the first "Comic Book Man". ;)

I just kept getting mad at Henry, for telling Dennis he had to get rid of his comic book collection. I would be mortified if my parents told me to get rid of something I valued so much.

You're right, that was an interesting episode. I didn't think anybody was aware of the value of comic books back then.

I have a pretty nice collection of Dennis The Menace comics from the 50s, 60s, & 70s. The books have been handled and read, but overall they seem to be in good/very good condition. I haven't had the collection appraised, but I imagine it has some value.

Does anyone remember The "All In The Family" episode when Archie Bunker opened up the trunk at the foot of the bed and in it were a bunch of Dennis The Menace comics--I loved that scene :)

Yep! I saw that one! It is when Archie has confined himself to his bedroom and announced that he is never going to leave his bed again because Archies Place is going bankrupt. They do a great close-up too of Archie reading a Dennis The Menace comic, it obviously has to be one from the seventies or before that, I don't know which issue, but probably a collector would. Archie is shown chuckling, behind the DTM mag & then he shakes his head and says, "Oh Dennis.....you really are a menace"
