Is he too nice of a guy or does this character have a dark side like some others? Tonight's episode makes me think he is just too sweet.

I didn't see this week's episode, but I'll let you know. Jim is very nice, but he's no pushover. I remember the time that Andy was trying to talk Jim into dumping Pam. This was before they were married. Jim played along, but he finally told Andy to never ever talk bad about Pam again. He did something to him too, but I forget. Anyone??

Watch this week's episode and you'll see what I am talking about. Jim is way too nice in it and honestly doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense to me. LOL

I saw the one recently when they were in Tallahassee. That pretty brunette girl went in Jim's hotel room and ended up half nude. Jim was entirely too passive about it, even though he was very nervous and wanted her GONE. He knew Pam would flip over that. He should have ordered her out of the room. Told her he was married and that's that!

No backbone. I would tell a guy to get out, in a minute. Yes, Jim can be too nice, too polite.

I watched the episode, Brian. Yes, Jim was way too nice to Dwight. Dwight treated Jim like crap during the entire golf game, and he wouldn't even say good-bye to him, after all those years of working together. Still, later on, Jim was going insane trying to tell Dwight that he was being sandbagged by his co-workers and set up to be fired.

Dwight refused to believe Jim when he told him that he was getting fired. That was a total lack of respect on Dwight's part. I don't think Jim wanted the managerial position. He knows there's more money in sales. That's how it was written the last time around.

Jim is the main character of the series. He is the straight man of all the crazies in his office. Actually without Jim, there is no series. Not Michael Scott. I like this season without Michael Scott. No offense to Steve Carrell, I like him, and Scott was sometimes a funny character. The show for the first seven seasons was too much Scott and not enough office (since Carrell was the star of the show.)

Jim the charatcer is a guy in his mid thirties who has this job making a medium salary. He wants to maintain what he has. He tried to be a boss and in his opinion just sucked at it. This is not far off from real life. Some workers are asked to be bosses but do not want the position. Or they take the job, like Jim and hate it. My father was a pilot for a major airline and he could have been a boss, he did not want it. He could no longer fly (which he enjoyed) and would be stuck in an office evaluating others. The "boss" job paid not much more than what he wanted.

Jim hasn't always been nice. He dislikes his job to a degree. He pushed Micheal into the koi pond. He did compete with Dwight for leadership and brought up that he was the number two when Dwight tried to be a in command of the operations. In one episode, he shoved Ryan into a broom closet with a computer to punish him. The pranks played on Dwight were very passive agressive. The episode where he hid Andy's phone in the roof to just f**k with him was hilarious but mean. It was also hilarious.

Jim screws with people for their own good. He also does it for his own humor.

Excellent post Janice and I agree with you 100%!!!

Jim's a great character. He can be a little too nice at times, but usually strikes a good balance. He was certainly good at putting Dwight in his place.

I think he's the character I like the most but (and I know this will sound wierd) not sure if I'd call him my "favorite"; there are too many funny & outrageous characters on the show to pick just one.

(From the get go you knew that Jim & Pam were an item, you could feel the chemistry between them - the show really portrayed that well, even if they were with other partners for a while. Glad they finally got hitched.)
