In my last post, I made a comparison between Katie's unrealistic sense of optimism in "Samantha's Protest" and Ralph Kramdon's unrealistic sense of optimism in every episode in which he came up with a get rich quite scheme. Well, a very good example is the episode in which he and Norton attempted to open a hot dog stand in New Jersey. He thought that this would really put the two couples on Easy Street! His excitement about this was very similar to Katie's excitement about getting asked out by the handsome boy from the protest. Now let us look at how both situations panned out! Ralph was very excited when a night watchman at a construction site told him that there was going to be a new building that would have between thirty and forty people working there. Ralph looked at this as thirty to forty possibilities of people coming to his stand for lunch every weekday. The man said "I would not could on that sir". When Ralph asked him why, the man said "the building going up is a Howard Johnson"! The look on Ralph's face was quite similar to the look on Katie's face when she learned that the boy who she had flurted her butt off of with was taking Samantha to a movie the next day! Live and learn folks! Live and learn!
