In between the last post by someone other than me and the present, I am trying for the fourteenth time to stimulate some conversation about this great series! I am going to commemorate this event by mentioning that I was fourteen years old when my favorite episode of season three and my third favorite episode of the whole series came out. The episode that I am writing about is "Samantha's Protest". Two threads ago, I mentioned something that went on in this series that reminded me of the types of things that Ralph Kramdon (The Honeymooners) would do. Well, I would say that, in this particular episode, Katie's sense of optimism and refusal to quite was very Ralph Kramdonish! Let us start with her first scene when she and Julie had just walked in from the dry cleaners. As a boy that she liked was whisteling to call his dog, Katie talked herself into believing that he was whisteling at her! Talk about a fantisy! Very shortly after she arrived at the protest, she saw that he was there, she started showering him with cutsy complements. When that did not inspire him to ask her out, she felt that she needed to take more drastic measures. As the protesters were locking arms, she used both of her arms to grab his and snuggle up to him! She spent about five seconds with her bosoms pressed against his upper body and her crotch leaning against his leg! Now any sensible person would be able to figure out that, if this behavior did not get him to ask her out, nothing would. But Katie did not stop trying! By the way, the fact that Katie's body in this position only lasted about five seconds was because the line of protesters ended with a very disgusted Julie who used her free arm to spin Katie around while saying "like this Katie"! In any event, the point that I am trying to make about Ralph Kramdon was that Katie's refusal to give up on her pursuit of this boy was very remminicent of Ralph's refusal to give up on get rich quick schemes that never worked! I guess that some people are just too stuborn to ever give up!
