It seems like the last season (especially towards the end) Seymour was being used more as a menace than Dennis. One episode I watched recently was the one where he accidently washes Mr. Wilson's tuxedo. Dennis is horrified by this. In the past, it would have been his character that was the culprit.

Now all of this was due to the fact that Jay North was getting older and I guess the writers knew they couldn't keep him the way he was. In fact, he seems much more toned down from past seasons. In a weird way there was actual growth for the character, but that also meant the writing was on the wall for show to come to an end.

I don't dislike these episodes. In fact, I kind of like them since they're different from the first three seasons. But it was starting to turn into more of a Leave it to Beaver type show than what it started out as.

It sure was.......Three seasons were perfect....The fourth did not have the laughter of the earlier seasons but was good nonetheless....Jeanie was right by saying it had run it's course....

Seymour was one of my favorite minor characters. He reminds me a lot of my nephew, who is turning four soon.
I never thought about how much he fills the younger Dennis role from the first season (or maybe part of the second), but it is true. I think the season would have ended after four seasons even if Joseph Kearns had lived.
