The show is quite different in the third season: different house, no Sue Ellen, less Cathy, different music orchestration, Patty starts to call Poppo "Dad" towards the end and he starts calling her "Pat". Still, there are some good individual episodes here (as on season 5 of Hazel). I only own the first season of this show, but I watch the rest early in the morning on THIS TV (if I'm awake).

The 3rd season is actually my favorite, the humor is a little more on the zany/slapstick side compared to the first two seasons. Patty's brother Ross also gets a few chances to shine in the 3rd season, he and Patty are funny together. I also enjoy seasons 1 and 2, but season 3 overall is a bit livlier, focusing more on the spunky personality of Patty rather than Cathy who's personality is comparatively dull.

Considering how much you enjoy seasons 1 & 2, I would think you would be anxious to view season 3. Atleast I would think you'd be curious how different it was. Anyway I have all 3 seasons, but I'm a "completest". Most shows, once I start collecting, I see it through to the end (whenever possible). But that's me. By the way, Season 3 has the 1999 reunion movie, Still Rockin' in Brooklyn Heights, which is fun and nostalgic.

The show went downhill after the amazing seasons 1 & 2. An overdose of that Patty Lane character got annoying after awhile imo. It was like a stuck seesaw.

And that's exactly what made season 3 an improvement over seasons 1 and 2. Cathy is seen less often (the Cathy character is dull and does not really appeal to me) and instead Patty's brother Ross is given more to do, which is a plus because he and Patty are funny together. The 3rd season overall is a bit more energetic than the first two seasons, a little more zany style of comedy. I enjoy the whole series but the 3rd season is my favorite, it's all a matter of opinion.

The series was originally created as an outlet for Patty Duke to display her acting versatility, two different characters were created for her to portray. When filming the series changed locales for the 3rd season, Patty was tiring of playing the dual role, so Cathy was seen less often. If there had been a 4th season in 1966-67, the show at that point would have had to switch to color episodes, but the feeling at the time was the show would have been too expensive to produce in color, with Patty Duke playing the two roles. There could have been a 4th season if Cathy was written out of the show, the writers could have had Cathy move overseas to continue her education. Without Cathy, there could have been a 4th season with Patty, her parents and brother Ross, boyfriend Richard, and all the gang at the malt shop. All in living color. That would have been cool to see.

Well so far I haven't purchased season 3. I remember seeing it back in the 90s when Nick at Nite ran it in prime time. I liked season three, but at this point I don't think I'll purchase it.

This was my fave show growing up and one of the first shows I have memories of watching on t.v. (I was born in 1960). I saw it various times in syndication as well and then not for many, many years. I was thrilled, of course, when it was released on DVD and couldn't wait to have the entire series and now, of course, I do!

The first two seasons are still my favorites but there are some good shows in season three. I especially love the episode where Patty sings "Funny Little Butterflies" and (as Patty pretending to be Cathy) "I'm Henry The 8th, I Am".

I enjoy both Patty and Cathy but I have to say I don't like that Cathy pretty much could have been played by a "lamp with a wig" (I read that somewhere online ages ago and it always makes me laugh) in Season 3. I always loved the infrequent Cathy-centric episodes of the first two season and in Season 3 it just feels like Cathy is counting the days until she graduates and can hightail back to Europe.

I do love the fact that, flawed as it is, the Season 3 DVD includes the reunion made-for-tv movie. It kind of brings things full circle.

I was watching some early season 1 episodes and realized I found the pacing much slower and the storylines not as funny, but to each his own. I certainly enjoy the set I got (way before Shout! announced theirs)--thanks to someone no longer on this board, but I hope he knows I appreciate it very much! :D

I don't think the Hollywood producers were even bothered with poor Cathy Lane. 1 story line out of 32 season 3 episodes. They even showed the double's face in that Tonsil episode wearing the Cathy wig and clothes.

Cathy morphed into a British teenager and her dad didn't even stop by to visit. She had to visit him resulting in a "no-show" in an episode.

Cathy's season 3 clothes did improve and was a little more grown-up yet classy but again her wardrobe seems limited vs the Patty Lane character.

But kudos to the writers for giving her a tiny bit of a storyline in that Ross being bullied episode.

I like season 3. I think it was really funny and I always enjoy watching a show all the way through. I haven't bought any of the seasons yet, but when I do I plan to get all three.

I enjoy season three as well. I loved that theme song for third season.
