The lower the income the LESS a family has to pay for electric, gas, and heat

I mean by the PRODUCERS. Why have the mother home when they were a low income family
Brieannas21 06-03-2012, 11:00 PM James wanted Florida home like a lot of men did back in the day, there are men who still thinks that the man should work while the woman stay home. Also Florida did end up working at a department store, I believe in season 3.

No man should want his wife home when he is making 1.33 cent an hour LOL

James worked like 3 jobs, he struggled and provided for his family because that was the mans role, their kids never went without. Back in those days, that is when some men had pride and didn't want handouts or their wives to work.

Perhaps the writers and producers were going with what was normal for the times - the woman stayed home, even in the most poorest of families. I know by the 70's there were a lot of wives seeking minimum wage jobs, but I think the overall platform of the show was to show the struggles of the projects and during that era, many husbands were against the wife being away from home when they had a job to tend to - house and kids. Maybe it was pride, maybe it was sexist attitude that many men had at that time, but it was what it was and there was no changing that.
