View Full Version : Woody Woodpecker
Smartboy 02-22-2012, 12:10 AM It seems that, for a while, the death of Whitney Houston (I am sorry if I spelled her name wrong) sparked some new interest in this page. A lot of people remember her cameo appearance on this series and paid tribute to her by posting a comment. However, like anything else, the novelty has worn off. However, even before that event, I posted a thread called the "Dry Cleaner". The fact that I gave it that name is because, in the third season episode "Samantha's Protest", it looked like Katie and Julie were carrying packages from the dry cleaner as they were walking through the front door. It was during this scene that Julie coined her classic phrase, "he was not whisteling at you he was calling his dog"! I loved it! In any event, posting this thread was simply one of my many attempts to stimulate some conversation about this fine series. In any event, this thread now has forty-nine veiws and zero replies. I would now like to commemorate this event by mentioning that, at one point, I watched a "Woody Woodpecker" cartoon and, in the credits, it said that it was made in 1949! "Woody Woodpecker" has been around twenty years longer than I have! How about that!

Thank you very much for your words of support! You are a lot more understanding than a lot of people who frequent this board! Glad to know you!

After sixteen attempts, I was finally able to think of a topic to write about that actually stimulated some conversation! Take a look at the number of replies to my thread titled "The Termination of the Girls"! This just goes to show that anything is possible! In any event, bringing this thread to the top of the page is a form an an experiment. I figure that, a good number of the people who frequent this page probably grew up with syndicated episodes of the "Woody Woodpecker" cartoon. This being the case, I am thinking that, they might be intrigued by the title and decide to come in. They might want to make sense as to what about "Woody Woodpecker" I am relating to "Gimme a Break!". Only time will tell what the outcome will be!

I am bringing this thread to the top of the page because there still seems to be quite a bit of interest in Whitney Houston. I notice that she is still on the cover of quite a few magazines and articles about her keep popping up on the Internet. I am wondering if any newcomers to this page might be interested in responding to what I wrote about her when I first started this thread. Also, I think that a lot of Generation Xers will probably have grown up with syndicated "Woody Woodpecker" cartoons. Because of this, they might be intrigued by the title and decide to come on in. It is really just one my tactic to try to stimulate some conversation on this dieing page!

This is one of a bunch of my old favorites that I am bringing to the top of the page in an attempt to stimulate some conversation about this fine series. I have decided to do this after I saw that some action was picking up on the page.

At this point, it seems as if the posts are coming in pretty regularly. This being the case, I have decided to see what happens if I bring this thread to the top of the page. I am wondering whether newcomers to this page might want to comment on the observations that I made once upon a time.

I haven't gotten to any episodes that feature Whitney Houston yet. But I think she played the role of Katie's friend? Is that right?

Honey, this post is all over the place. I don't know what you're focusing on. First, you mention Whitney Houston. Then you mention the episode Samantha's protest that doesn't even feature Whitney Houston. And finally, you mention the Woody Woodpecker cartoon. I'm not getting the connection with these three topics you brought up. Somewhat confusing.

To start with, in order to understand the connection between these three topics, you really have to be able to think outside of the box. The first thing that you have to understand is that I posted it during a time when this page was very slow. When I would run out of things to write regarding the show, I would write about site traffic. I would see how many views one of my previous threads had and commemorate it by writing about something that has to do with that number. Sometime I would write about a song or a skit on "Sesame Street" that had to do with that number. My post titled "The Dry Cleaner" happened to have forty-nine views and zero replies. I commemorated this by writing about a "Woody Woodpecker" cartoon that was made in 1949. In between the time that I posted my "Dry Cleaner" thread and the time that I posted my "Woodpecker", Whitney Houston died. Because she appeared on another episode of "Gimme a Break!" several people posted messages about that. However, the novelty of that situation was very short-lived. When I wrote about "Woody Woodpecker" I mentioned how, since the novelty of that situation is over, it is time to think of something else to write about. I hope this helps to clear things up for you.

No, it doesn't really clear things up for me, but I appreciate you trying to explain your motivation.
Anyhow, I'm watching the episode "The Groupie" right now. Julie is in big trouble with the chief for sneaking out to spy on Andy Gibb!

I remember that episode. Because Julie was always my favorite, I especially liked episodes in which she was the central character.

Yes, the episode focused on her in this episode. She wanted to impress those popular girls, so Nell let her go out to try to meet Andy Gibb. The chief was furious when he found out that Julie spent the night at Gibb's hotel room, so he was going to arrest him.....Even after Julie explained everything, Simpson still kept his gun drawn on Gibb and his band mates. Simpson was such a horrible police officer. How in the world did he ever get and keep his job. The man had rocks in his head.

Actually Woody is a little older yet. The first appearance of Woody Woodpecker was in an Andy Panda cartoon from Walter Lantz studios released in 1940. By 1941, Woody was appearing in his own animated cartoons.

Thank you very much for all of that interesting information about "Woody Woodpecker"! I find it amazing that I grew up with a cartoon that has been around since before World War II!

I can understand that. They are pretty cool. I remember a "Happy Days" episode in which it got mentioned that the Fonz liked them!
