A while back, I picked up a DVD set of virtually all Love American Style episodes. It was a very creative program.
I was thinking, how do all of you feel about a new version of Love American Style?
I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this.
Advantages: With today's more openness, they can get away with more things than they could 40 years ago. Also, they can get modern celebrities to star in the show (much like they did on the original).
Disadvantages: It will not have the innocence the original had. And unless they get top notch writers, there's a good chance it won't be as good as the original.

it would be nice if they could do it properly, but that would be impossible

Done already in the 80's for the 11AM eastern slot on the ABC network along with at least half a dozen other shows....."The Home Show", "assorted game shows"....then "The View" was born and success......basically what will happen if these cheap shows like "The Chew" & "The Revolution" fail, the timeslots will become revolving doors but for only unscripted cheap shows with talent already signed to the network.

I wouldn't mind seeing ABC air a new updated version of it provided they give it a decent chance. They would probably handle it better than the other networks. I never saw the one that aired in the 80's that TeeVeeCloset mentioned.

C'mon guys....I understand your thought process, but if you both don't remember as far back as the 80's, then I don't think you fully understand where the industry has gone and where celebrity has gone......then game shows, love boats, fantasy islands, hollywood squares, match games all could be filled with either classic stars near death or D list celebs......Today you are either a A-lister or a reality star.......that is why there are basically no regular real celebrity game shows anymore......so if God forbid any of the shows like Love or anyother of the shows I mentioned returned they would be filled with the likes of "Dancing With The Stars" first weeks cast offs and so-called reality stars.
There are just so many Charlie Brills, Nanette Fabray, Charles Nelson-Reilly, Abe Vigota types left, meaning they are gone forever and these shows can't afford A listers and they don't want to do them, yeah Bruce Jenner could do a 15 minute "Love American Style" segment, but by weeks end, and Rob Kardashian could try acting, the well would be dry...perhaps Bruce Valanche or did he die?.......back then you had countless A, B, C & D stars....like I said, now it is A listers or reality stars. The time has gone.....years ago when "Hollywood Squares" returned it all depended on getting Whoopi Goldberg to produce and star in the center square.....the rest were very difficult to fill.....once Whoopi called it quits, the show struggled and vanished.

A new version would be way over the top in sexual innuendo and the smut level. Some things just need to be left as they were.
