the recommendations don't have to be new shows by the way. just post-1990ish.

i've watched my favorite sitcoms so often already that i've grown sick of them... and all the others that are often recommended and i've tried do nothing for me.

some of the below may not be straight sitcoms (like scrubs) but i feel it still fits because it is short and i don't have to fully concentrate on it.

these are my favorites that i've watched over and over and currently can't watch any more because of it:
seinfeld
home improvement
malcolm in the middle
friends
the fresh prince of bel-air

and these i've watched for as long as i could bear (usually because of a female lead getting to annoying that i was still be able to stand it):
mad about you
scrubs
two and a half men
married with children
the big bang theory
how i met your mother

these are some i can't stand at all:
curb your enthusiasm
it's always sunny in philadelphia
todd and the book of pure evil (i would actually like the concept but hate the characters)
modern family
king of queens
everybody loves raymond
the new adventures of old christine
cougar town

some i disliked but not strongly enough to include them above:
frasier
community
arrested development

and then there are those old ones i used to like but these days, i find their preachy moral message at the end of every episode revolting:
full house
family matters

Are you looking for other sitcoms to try out? In that case, THE BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, COMMUNITY, COUGAR TOWN, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT...

I think The Middle is worth watching.

the middle was actually a great tip!
based on the promos, i always thought it was just a bad knockoff of malcolm in the middle but while the family structure and even the concept is somewhat similar, i find it different enough (and more importantly: not bad) that i may actually be able to enjoy it.

i've also updated my first posting to include some shows i forgot about and ryan423 was kind enough to remind me of ;)

the recommendations don't have to be new shows by the way. just post-1990ish.

well... so much for "the middle". stopped watching at s01e22. two very annoying episodes in a row - too much to bear and i don't see why it would get better again... shows rarely do.

I don't see anything from the 50's thru the 70's on your list. Try out ME-TV or The Hub networks, and check out the REAL classics! I Love Lucy for starters!!

as i said later on (i just copied it into the first post as well):
"the recommendations don't have to be new shows by the way. just post-1990ish."

but thanks anyway

The only post-1990ish show I would suggest is NCIS. For me, this is the only new show that has aired during the last 25 years that has been worth turning the tv on for.

NCIS? as in "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service"? this show here? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCIS_(TV_series)

Yeah but don't much faith in Wikipedia.

what would there be to have faith in?
unless NCIS is really not a drama but a sitcom and the thousands of people and moderators looking at that wikipedia-entry have not corrected it...
