In an episode last night Emily mentioned that Bob could take a quarter and go see a movie. It really only cost 25 cents in the 1970's to see a movie? That's cheap. It's the episode where Bob's sister comes to town and Howard falls for her.

Yes, and of course they'd make more profits selling Good 'n Plenty, Popcorn, Goobers and Raisinets. When I was very young in Brooklyn, like eight or nine, my older brother would take me sometimes on a Sunday afternoon to a double feature at the Colisseum movie theater on 4th Avenue. You could watch two full length feature movies, and between them watch Coming Attractions, and several cartoons, and a newsreel or two--all for 35 cents.

Well it was about 5 or 6 dollars in 1989 so that sounds about right


Now it's 10 or 11 dollars

I grew up in the 70's and I never remember a movie being THAT cheap. Sure, I didn't pay or even notice the price when I was really little but I graduated HS in 1982 and it just seems like a quarter is a bit too low of an estimate.

Yea I don't remember it being that cheap either. I do remember riding my bike up to the 7-11 and getting my comic books and they were only a quarter though. Those were the days. lol

I'd say $3 sounds right for the 70s. I remember it hit $5 in the 80s. The popcorn probably cost more than that today.

It depends on the theater, he could have been going to a theater that played older movies- there was a second run theater back in the 80's we used to frequent that would have double-features for $1.50.

There were a lot more independently run theaters back then, and not all cities, states charged the same prices.


Also in the 80's when they used to do double-features for first run movies, I remember paying about $4 for 2 movies, matinee of course.

We had a local newscaster who run a small theater that only showed older movies, back in the 70's when I was a teenager. I think he charged a dollar to get in, but of course the snacks cost a little more.
