Disney's Maleficent will be Angelina Jolie's next movie.
Jolie, speaking at a crowded news conference Saturday at the Berlin International Film Festival, where her feature directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey is screening out of competition, brought up the project -- without directly mentioning a title -- when asked about the next step in her career.
"I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie," said the actress.
Maleficent has gained momentum in recent weeks with Robert Stromberg brought on as director.

Disney's Maleficent, a live-action origins story starring Angelina Jolie as one of Disney's most iconic villians, is eyeing a June start date in London.
Robert Stromberg will direct Maleficent from a script by Linda Wolverton and is already in the U.K. prepping the film. Malificent is a passion project for Jolie and will be her next acting role.
One possibility for the role of Aurora is Elle Fanning, who is in talks to join the cast.
Fanning's star status rose last year with Somewhere and J.J. Abrams sci-fi movie Super 8.

by Borys Kit
Disney has etched a March 14, 2014, date for Maleficent, its retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale that will star Angelina Jolie.
By penciling it for March, the studio is hoping the movie will channel some of the box-office charm of Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s retelling of the Lewis Carroll classic that starred Johnny Depp and grossed more than $1 billion worldwide after opening in March 2010.
According to the studio, “the live-action film explores the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney’s animated classic Sleeping Beauty.”
Robert Stromberg, the Oscar-winning production designer behind Avatar and Alice, is making his directorial debut on the movie, which is being produced by Joe Roth.

Evil never looked so good.
Disney has released the first photo of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, the infamous sorceress from Sleeping Beauty.
The image shows Jolie looking upwards, wearing the sorceress' signature horns, red lips and creepy glowing eyes.
The image was released with the announcement from Disney that filming has started on June 13 in the U.K.
Disney’s new film reveals the origins of one of their most famous villains, sharing the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora in the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty.
The film marks the directorial debut for Robert Stromberg, an Academy Award winning production designer (Avatar, Alice in Wonderland).
Elle Fanning stars as Aurora and Sharlto Copley is Stefan, the half-human and half-fairy bastard son of the human king.
Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville play the three pixie fairies.
Fans will have quite a wait for Maleficent, which is set for release on March 14, 2014 in 3D.

JamesG 08-10-2013, 07:49 PM D23: Maleficent’s Angelina Jolie Makes Surprise Appearance
by THE DEADLINE TEAM
Saturday August 10, 2013
Angelina Jolie made a surprise appearance at Disney’s live action panel on Friday.
“Since I was a little girl, I was drawn to her. But I was also terrified by her, but she had this elegance and grace,” said Jolie about playing in the upcoming backstory to the Sleeping Beauty character.
“When I heard Disney was making the film, my brother encouraged me to take the role.”
Jolie’s appearance in front of the audience of 7,500, came after Walt Disney live action production head Sean Bailey spoke about casting her for Maleficent.
“You can pencil out a list of all the amazing actresses in the world and for us this list only had one name for the role, Angelina Jolie,” exclaimed Bailey over as sketches from the film played on the big screen.
After Jolie’s brief turn on stage, Bailey showed the audience exclusive footage from Maleficent. In the clip, Jolie’s British-accented wicked Queen appeared amidst CGI fairies and green steam rising to curse the baby Sleeping Beauty.
“Without a doubt, Maleficent will be a powerful movie experience when it comes to theaters next summer,” Bailey told the crowd.
Maleficent is set to be release on July 2, 2014.

JamesG 06-23-2014, 01:54 PM Maleficent is Angelina Jolie's Top-Earning Film
by Erin Strecker
June 23, 2014
Over the weekend, Maleficent hit over $520 million at the worldwide box office, making it Angelina Jolie’s highest-grossing film of her career, besting previous record holder Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which took in $478.2 million in 2005.
Maleficent has been in theaters for four weeks in the United States, and it hauled in an additional $13 million this weekend domestically; Maleficent also passed Disney’s similarly styled Oz the Great and Powerful, which grossed $493.3 million worldwide back in 2013.
The film’s overall gross will likely get substantially higher; Maleficent has yet to open in Japan.

Vahan 06-23-2014, 02:04 PM Naturally, it would be, because it's a kids film, and kids films tend to make more money than anything else in Hollywood, as anyone, from the young to the old, can see them.
JamesG 06-23-2014, 02:18 PM Naturally, it would be, because it's a kids film, and kids films tend to make more money than anything else in Hollywood, as anyone, from the young to the old, can see them.
Also, young kids don't go to the movies alone so it's usually double/triple the profits from the parents, friends, rest of family, etc...
Tubehead 06-24-2014, 02:30 AM mine review
Maleficent if your fan of cartoon movie sleeping beauty or have little girls seen it or if you seen it as a kid I highly recommend Maleficent me and my mom thought it be more scarier for little girls but its not it about this fairy who lived in this frost then she meets this boy then they fall in love he becomes the kings sevent but then he tricks Maleficent cuts off her wings but that's might have been what saved her. then the witch puts cruse on the kings baby she can't wake up unless a true love kiss . if your fan of fantasy or if you liked 2012 snow white comedy mirror mirror maleficent is no comedy its got some really dark moments in it it may be scarier for little younger kids or if you like snow white & the hunts man then i highly recommend maleficent I don't recommend it for every one this movie more about the witch then sleeping beauty if you want good family movie I highly recommend we Maleficent didn't see it in 3d or the I max if you want good family movie I highly recommend it I don't recommend if your Christian it does got some magic spells so if you don't like harry potter or don't want your kids to be into magic but it really don't got too much magic in it like I said I don't recommend it for every one if you grew up watching sleeping beauty movie then I highly recommend maleficent
JamesG 07-22-2014, 04:12 PM Disney’s Maleficent Crosses $700 Million in Global Box Office
by THE DEADLINE TEAM
July 22, 2014
Disney’s Maleficent keeps on enchanting audiences around the world as it has crossed the $700 million mark in global box office, Disney distribution execs said.
It’s the studio’s second 2014 release to cross that high mark (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, box office champ for the first half of 2014, is the other).
Since its U.S. release on May 30, the film has tallied $228.8M domestically. Overseas, it has been extremely strong, no doubt helped by star Angelina Jolie‘s global visibility and appeal.
The overall international gross has hit $471.8M so far, with big numbers out of China, Mexico, Russia and Brazil. Japan, which has a habit of keeping late-arriving Disney films in theaters for many lucrative weeks (see what happened with Frozen earlier in the year before Maleficent dethroned it), just debuted the film on July 5.
Since then, it’s been No. 1 for three straight weekends, pulling in $32.7M already.
The studio said Maleficent is the year’s highest-grossing film based on an original story, (though some may quibble, given the film’s roots in Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty).
It’s also Jolie’s highest-grossing live-action film ever, whether measured by domestic, international and global box office.
