A new book, Faith and Fortune: A Mormon Family In Hollywood, chronicles the life of the Jacobs family as they made their way out of obscurity in Utah to National Television. They became ad agency and casting company’s First Choice in Hollywood in the early 80’s.

So what kind of impact did Hollywood have upon this sheltered, almost cloistered family from Utah? While the moral fiber of many other child actors was shredded in entertainment’s ultimate meat grinder, how did any of the Jacobs Family survive? Or did they?

The answers to these questions can be to be found in the soon to be published book by two intermountain authors, Shane Lester and Kimball Jacobs, one of the survivors.
“Unlike other exposés that reveal the dark side of Hollywood and lives obliterated by the lure of fame, this book is a celebration of the gifts, the sacrifice and the faith of the my family” says Kimball Jacobs, the father and manager of his talented children. “During the eighties, Rachel, Christian, and Parker all intersected with hit television shows, such as Diff’rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Family Ties, Gloria, Growing Pains, Charles in Charge and Major Dad,” says Shane Lester, co-author of the book.
“All three children were on promising sitcoms and then suddenly the carpet of fame was pulled from underneath them. It would seem that three children on three separate networks could achieve some sort of longevity in the business. So many families succeed, why not them?” Summarizes Jacobs.
Walking near the edge of stardom, you will see Hollywood through the eyes of a family who chose faith over fame.
The book, published exclusively from Booklocker, will be available for purchase in March 2002. You can request notification of publication by contacting www.booklocker.com or angela@booklocker.com.
