What was the brand of the recorder that stopped working ?
You might find someone who has one and can finish them for you.

Depending on your DVD recorder, it may be possible to make a copy of the disc in a program called DVDFab, either with or without any menus. DVDFab would "finalize" the disc as it makes a copy of the files which can then be burned to disc. However this requires a computer with a DVD burner and a little technical know-how. This is the only program I ever found that will successfully copy discs created in DVD recorders. I have accidentally forgotten to finalize discs in both my Panasonic and Magnavox then wound up making copies of them which play perfectly fine in any standard DVD player.

I believe the basic burning and finalizing works the same on all DVD recorders. I mean just the non computer type. It's different with burners in computers. If you have unfinalized discs, a computer may not read them and you may have to finalize them on a recorder. I have a recorder that also broke down and tried to finalize some discs on a computer but the computer wouldn't read them. In order for DVD fab to work, the optical drive has to read the dvd first and recognize that it's there, because that's the reason fo finalizing a disc. So it will work in other players. Good luck.

i tried to finalize them on another recorder but it does not work that way i think there is differences in the machines . i have 2 recorders currently and one of them just says that it is a bad disc and the other one i can watch the discs for some reason but i can't finalize them as it will not allow me to go to the screen to start the finalization process

try playing one on the machine that will play them and recording another copy on the other recorder. You should be able to finalize that copy.

Two other tricks.
1. Copy the disc contents to a hard drive as a data file and then try to read it on hard drive. This also works on non-copyright protected discs with CRC errors.
2. IsoBuster may pull it off as ISO file, which you then burn with a program like Free ISO Burner.

Copy it to your computer than you can use dvdflick and download them to a new disk
