"The Office" (Replaced "Committed")

Somewhere in the vast graveyard of failed NBC sitcoms from the 2000s is "Committed," a kooky opposites-attract vehicle that never made it past a baker's dozen episodes after premiering in '05. And so, in March of that year, a U.S. revamp of ... more a hugely successful, Ricky Gervais-created U.K. comedy called "The Office" swooped in and helped the Peacock Network take back Thursday night. Seven years later, and the American "Office" is still anchoring the work week's penultimate evening for NBC. Don't feel too bad for "Committed" brain trust Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline, however. They went on to exec produce a little hit for rival broadcaster ABC called "The Middle."

It's certainly ONE of the greatest mid-season replacements. There's a long list of mid season replacements though. Of course my favorite show that started mid-season is NewsRadio.

Other shows that's first season was a mid-season replacement (only a half season): (I'll just list sitcoms)

Wings
Three's Company
Ellen
All in the Family
Good Times
The Jeffersons
Parks and Recreation
Perfect Strangers
The Simpsons
Married with Children
Happy Days
Laverne & Shirley

and I'm sure many more.

Yep, it's first season in 2005 is only six episodes long. You couldn't tell that by the price of the DVD, though. That's what took me so long to get into this show. I wasn't willing to pay anywhere from $20 to $35 for a 6 episode DVD. The price has gone down lately to $14.99. At least at the places I've seen it.
