I came across on the internet a record about Freddie. It is here:

Does anyone know what it is about & where I can find a sound sample of it to listen to it. I wonder if the record could be about his death? Then again it could be a love song about him. If anyone knows... :)

Cheryl, it looks like this is a love song about him--the album it was taken from is called "Songs of Love" according to the label on the 45--OMG!!! If anyone on here wins this and would be willing to put it on tape for me, I really need to hear this! I never knew anyone recording a love song for him back then! And I never heard of a singer just called Charlene. Someone needs to look into this--in fact, I feel some research coming on LOL!

Well I was skeptical because I never heard that song or Charlene for that matter but, then I took a look at the year. It was made 1977. (sniff) :crying:  :music: :( :(

I do not own a turntable, so I would not be able to listen to it! :( That is why I haven't bid on it. I would love to hear it, so if ladyinleppard or anyone else on here gets it, please make taped copies for us. My e-mail is attached to my posts! Thank you and good luck to anyone bidding on it! :guitar: :music:

I remember the song I've never been to me. It is a beautiful song about a woman who is always busy taking care of other people but, she never had time to take care of herself. I think she never got married or never had children. The song is really a tearjerker. Now I know that Charlene sang it. WoW! :crying: :crying:

I rremember the song "I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ME" by Charlene. Haven't heard it in yrs. My hubby Mike said he remembers this Freddie record. He thinks it was her only hit & album & she was a one hit wonder. But it can't be her only hit if she had out "I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ME" & it was a hit. I see a stranger had outbid someone from the boards on it. Gosh I hope it goes to someone on here! Meantime I will search oldies record shops for the record...

Here's all I was able to find about the album the song is on including the issuing number. It was released on Motown's Prodigal label in March of 1977, then in May 1977 after being repackaged to include the "Freddie" song. There are two different covers for this album because of that.
I tried many record stores, used, collectible....and am not able to find a copy locally...good luck to anyone who can get a copy.
P6-10018 - Songs of Love - Charlene [5/77] Repackage of P6-10015, with "Freddie" replacing "Shake a Hand" and the songs re-sequenced. Also, there is no spoken bridge in the song "I've Never Been To Me." It Ain't Easy Comin' Down/I've Never Been To Me/Rings/Somewhere In My Life/Hey Mama//Freddie/I Love Every Little Thing About You/It's Really Nice To Be in Love Again/I Want To Come Back As A Song/On My Way To You
The artist's full name is Charlene Duncan.
