It looks like The Office may be experiencing additional turnover next season: Fox has ordered a half-hour comedy pilot produced by and starring The Office‘s Mindy Kaling.

The project, which was originally in contention at NBC, finds Kaling playing a Bridget-Jones type OB/GYN trying to navigate both her personal and professional lives.

In addition to writing the pilot, Kaling would serve as an exec producer alongside fellow Office producer Howard Klein.

If the show gets picked up to series, Kaling would exit The Office. And if NBC ends up moving forward with a Rainn Wilson-headlined Dwight spinoff, that means Dunder Mifflin could potentially be down two castmembers heading into the fall.

I like Kelly, but she is a side character and sort of one demensional. I think it would be good for Mindy to do something else.

My understanding was that she had another job on the series outside of acting. The Office is an interesting show because there are some actors who are behind the scenes of the series. Too lazy to look, but she is vested in "The Office" more than a bit player, much the same as BJ Novak and Paul Liebermann (who plays Toby).

I like to see more Indian American people on television. There was a show on NBC last year about a guy going to India to work in a boiler room of phone operators, but it sucked and was cancelled. Hopefully Mindy Kailing, Aziz Ansari, and Kal Penn will allow more South Asians on television. Indian women are beautiful..........especially if you like a girl with a bit of meat on the bone (like Mindy Kailing).

Well said, she is more of a writer than an actress, but this pilot if picked up by FOX could make her into a leading lady, which I think would make her the 1st ever lead to be Indian American.
