View Full Version : High cost
gttiene 01-29-2012, 05:40 AM Does anyone know why this show DVD cost so much? It's around $40 everywhere I look!! I want to buy and finally get to see this show, but don't know if it's worth the high price. The rest of the series probably won't get a release if it costs this much. I would imagine it won't sell well.
old grouch 01-29-2012, 11:04 AM I know what you mean. I would love to own this show, too, but there is no way I would pay $40 for it.

I think its because its a Warner MOD (Manufatured on Demand) title and not available in stores. It is on Amazon, however. The only way were going to see seasons 2 & 3 is if fans buy it. I bought one for a gift for Xmas, and now plan to buy my own.

I remember it as a kid it more a drama affair then comedy similar to a series called Julia (1968–1971) Do not expect it to be like My Favorite Martian. I think The Brady Bunch and The Patridge Family had more laughs then this.
Rambo Stallone 06-18-2012, 10:00 AM Manufatured on Demand releases should not cost more then $10 even $15 is pushing it, they on DVD R most of the times.
HelloLarry 06-29-2012, 03:04 PM Everyone has their price point. I think $40 is a fair price for a season of the show. A movie in the MOD collection is anywhere from 15-20 bucks so it's right in your price range if you break it down per disc. Keep your eyes open though as they have sales frequently and you can probably find some coupons to bring the price down.
Consumers always have a gripe. If it was never released, that would be the complaint. Now it is released and the price is too high for some. To each his own. I'm glad they are starting to put series out on MOD. I've read complaints about the way they are manufactured but as someone who purchased this, the shows look beautiful and I was very happy with the release. At the time of the first season release, there was a WB MOD podcast in which it was mentioned that the whole series was digitally remastered already so hope 2 & 3 come out. They also found some screen tests I believe which hopefully will make their way onto a future release.
If it weren't for the MOD program, we would have such a slim chance of this great show showing up in the brick and mortar stores.

That's my only gripe about the Warner MOD sets. I don't mind the price at all, but why can't they press the discs on regular DVDs?
HelloLarry 06-29-2012, 11:27 PM I've made several purchases of MOD product from WB and have had zero problems with quality and this series is no different if the price is right for those interested.
I'm just ignorant to the difference I guess. What do you mean by 'regular' DVDs? Aren't they the same? I think the MODs I've ordered look just as good as something that wasn't an MOD.

What is MOD?
biffbronson 06-29-2012, 11:48 PM As markway895 pointed out, that stands for Manufactured on Demand -- meaning that these won't be mass produced and available easily in stores.
While the series generally wasn't big on laughs, the first and second seasons were very well done and highly worthwhile. Season 3 was not as much to my liking. But the quality and care that went into Courtship always seemed evident to me, and there were some terrific guests.
The first season is now available on Warner Archive for $31.96 plus shipping. Amazon Marketplace sellers have it as low as $33.35 plus shipping. I think that's pretty reasonable for 26 episodes.
McGillicuddy 10-09-2012, 08:46 PM Now, Season 2 is available for almost $50! Now that IS high!

If they are DVD R, that's not good. DVD Rs start to deteriorate after 10 years, whereas the normal DVDs last for many decades.
comedyfreak 10-24-2012, 05:37 AM You may want to check on Ebay, maybe someone will sell a copy.
It's down to $39.95 at WBShop.com. I was shocked at the $50 price. That may have been a glitch.
My Season 2 copy is pressed discs. If you order directly from WBShop, they press a limited number of discs apparently until they run out and switch to the DVD-Rs.
