LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The father of late actress Brittany Murphy is suing the Los Angeles Police Department and the coroner's office, accusing both of botching the investigation into his daughter's death.
Angelo Bertolotti, who is acting as his own attorney, filed the lawsuit late Wednesday alleging neither agency tested his daughter's hair for poisons, toxins or heavy metals. He claimed Murphy's death two years ago was incorrectly blamed on pneumonia and anemia.
Coroner's assistant chief Ed Winter said he understands why Bertolotti filed the case.
"He's trying to get a resolution to his daughter's death," Winter said.
Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, also died five months later of pneumonia and anemia.
Murphy's parents believe toxic mold in the actress's house killed the couple.
