Why if the Parent show is not doing well in the ratings?

The character is good as part of an ensemble. Probably couldn't stand him as a lead.

It's no way I would look at a show with JUST DWIGHT and that BEET FARM. WHen the beet farm is shown on the Office I find myself losing interest

I'm just concerned with how this will affect The Office. If they continue it without him then it's "The Office" without Michael Scott AND Dwight Schrute!!! Some fans have made peace with no Michael and now this! Then again, this could be NBC's ploy to get rid of The Office but keep the popular Dwight character on NBC (that sentence reeks of the Leno/Conan mess, lol).

I can't imagine Jim without Dwight, all for a spin-off that doesn't sound too strong an idea. It all comes down to actually seeing it, of course. The spin-off could be really funny but I think season 9 of The Office will be it's last season as a result of it and Dwight will be in all the episodes except for the last nine or so.

Adam I believe the Office will have ended by the fall of 2013. They wouldn't have the Office still running after 8 years especially since they would be developing a new spinoff. Kind of like how Friends ended and Joey started

I don't see the Office ending anytime soon. I mean I could be wrong, but it is one of the few and I mean FEW hits they have at NBC.

Brian why would they develop a new show for Dwight and still have the Office on the air?-lol They are obviously preparing for the POST OFFICE ERA which will be a dwight show

That would be for the best.

So right now it's the 8th season: 2011-2012. It looks like there's going to be a 9th season for 2012-2013, however, the actors haven't signed onto yet. If the article is correct, Dwight would depart at some point in the 9th season to do his mid-season spin-off. So there may not be a 10th season of The Office but the ending of the 9th season doesn't look promising as it won't have Dwight and if all the main actors don't sign on for season 9 to begin with then the whole season looks bleak.

I don't mind the show ending, I just hate to see it go out so crappily.

That's what I thought until I read the news of a Dwight spin-off. Now I don't know. The new show would only hurt The Office because of Dwight's departure and it's ratings would get even lower. Then again, the show is Rainn Wilson and Paul Lieberstein's idea. Maybe, Rainn doesn't want to go back to The Office but is willing to do this spin-off.

Since NBC thinks highly enough of the Dwight character to do a spinoff, I'm surprised he wasn't made the Manager instead of Andy

Recent buzz that NBC is mulling an Office spinoff built around Dwight was much ado about something, confirmed his portrayer Rainn Wilson at Sunday’s 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

After initially joking that a Dwight-centric series is “the worst idea I have ever heard in my life,” Wilson told E!’s Giuliana Rancic during the network’s live red carpet coverage that, “We’re talking about a Dwight spinoff that could be really cool.”

Last week, our sister site Deadline.com, which first broke the story, reported that the in-the-works offshoot would be set at the Schrute Farms and bed and breakfast — something Wilson also confirmed. “It would have a crazy menagerie of characters,” he added. “It would be even more far out and weird than The Office.”

I can't imagine The Office without Dwight. It would be a very hard hit. I also have no interest in watching a show about Dwight and his beet farm. I just think he needs The Office, and The Office needs him.

Janice the spinoff is supposed to start when the Office is over. That's the plan for when the Office is wrapped up and then the Dwight character will spin off. Kind of like when Friends ended and then Joey started

Probably a cross between Michael and Jim. Darryl kills me though. They're all so interesting in their own way.

I'd have to go with Ryan; then again, that could be a testament to his fine acting skills. He acts like such a creep on the show, that he made me dislike him in real life. He's probably one of the nicest guys going.

Why not Sol, it could be a lead in to the spin-off. The Office is an ensemble show right now more than ever. Dwight leaving will hurt, but it is no certainty that the Office will end.

That's exactly what I am talking about Sol...because they didn't have a proper send off to Joey of Friends and because Friends was no longer around, the spin off suffered. IMO

In my opinion, if a parent show has been on the air for almost a decade I think they will end it first before the spinoff starts. How many parent shows you know that was on the air for 9 years or more stayed on the air once the spinoff started?-lol

this is NBC we're talking about - so all bets are off

maybe they want to run it as a companion show to the office, although I'd prefer it if they'd keep the character on both shows
