View Full Version : Worst Current Network/Channel on TV?
I got the idea to start this thread from here (http://realwrestlecrap.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=offtopic&action=display&thread=409904&page=1). Anyway, I'm going to break things down in both cable and broadcast (i.e. ABC, CBS, CW, Fox, NBC, etc.), and try to give me a good reason why.
Regulus 01-18-2012, 06:49 PM Oh, that's Easy, ALL OF THEM! :D
Too many "Reality" Shows, as well as too much "Political Correctness".
Also TOO MANY COMMERCIALS!!! :angryfire

 I respect opinions, but ALL?!
Steve M. 01-18-2012, 11:02 PM If not for "Parenthood" and a sitcom or two, there'd be no reason to watch NBC. I think it's time for the government to bail them out!
 I respect opinions, but ALL?!
He likes to belabor the point that he doesn't have cable anymore, that he saves money and is able to buy a huge library of DVDs, and blah blah blah blah inappropriate commercial during a kids' show. He's just trying to support his long-held claim that all of television is currently a wasteland. I think we get it.

lol no kidding talk about cramming it down our throats.
robyrob 01-19-2012, 11:22 AM i think the CW is the worst, followed closely by abc then nbc (CW has gotten rid of everything but really bad reality shows and dumb dramas aimed at 12 year old girls)
on cable, there are soo many bad ones it is hard to pick even just a handful - MTV, Hallmark Channel, YouToo, Clooooo, TVLand, SyFy is quickly going down the drain, ION, Lifetime, GSN - most of them just show too many bad commercials, hack shows up, repeat them all a million times, show too many dumb reality shows, and cancel their good shows (like Eureka and the Dresden Files, etc.)
Regulus 01-19-2012, 11:46 AM Well Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Me! I didn't realise I was being so "Pushy". I didn't mean any harm.

Steve M. 01-19-2012, 01:15 PM Yeah, the CW is pretty lame.
yankeesrj12 01-19-2012, 02:34 PM Yeah, the CW is pretty lame.
The CW is pretty much a pile of garbage. The Vampire Diaries is really the only series on the network that has any value, and it could fit on ABC Family.
Remodeled had the lowest series premiere in the history of any broadcast network, which goes to show you how bad The CW is right now.
I honestly think the affiliates would be better off if The CW folded and they all went independent.

Yes! Bring back local indie stations! :)

megamanj2004 01-20-2012, 02:33 AM Just about almost every channel owned by Viacom comes to mind right away, particularly TV Land, MTV (though the only thing I watch is Beavis and Butt-Head), BET (the only thing I watch is The Game), CMT (used to be watchable when they had The Dukes of Haazard).

The "M" in MTV used to stand for "Music." Now it apparently stands for "Multimedia."

no - it actually stands for "Miasma"

UMFaninMD 01-20-2012, 07:15 PM TLC is a big disappointment. They went from an educational channel to all reality all the time. If it's not babies, brats and weddings these days, it doesn't get shown. For a while, people called it "The Litter Channel" because they were airing like three or four reality shows about multiples for a while. The only time I tune in is for the Dateline mysteries they air during the weekends.
howierules86 01-20-2012, 07:44 PM My vote goes to OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network). Seriously, does anyone even care that Oprah has a cable channel devoted to her and her BFFs?

70s show watcher 01-22-2012, 03:25 AM Yes! Bring back local indie stations! :)agreed
Steve M. 01-22-2012, 12:13 PM Three network affiliates and three local stations were a good balance for a media market in the '70s. ERVen a foruth network (Fox) and two local statiuons were acceptable. Five networks and Fox's MyStations (like My9 in New Jersey) is overkill.
megamanj2004 01-22-2012, 01:20 PM no - it actually stands for "Miasma"
Never thought of that one!
Tubehead 02-04-2012, 04:11 AM ijust got ddiigtl cable couple wweeks ago i got the hub nick toon teen nick the gopels musicchannel and me tv. my faovrites are the hub nick toon teen nick and me t v.
megamanj2004 02-04-2012, 10:39 PM OWN - Now if they played classic Oprah on there from before the late 1990s, then it would be mildly ok but otherwise, what's the point of this network besides Oprah and her bffs as another poster would say.
FOX News - Mainly because of the whole deceitful and despicable nature that goes on w/ the people on that channel. Fair and balanced? Can anyone on that channel please explain to me what in the blue hell do they call "fair and balanced?" Hosts on their shows cut off people's mics at will when they won't kiss their backsides on how they view the president and anything else on there. Just because they're the self-proclaimed #1 cable news network doesn't mean I like it. That's just my two cents w/ FOX News.

Dang straight, we're talking about it. There's a growing number of us who are frustrated and disappointed because whenever we think there's going to be something decent and enjoyable on TV these days, it isn't there. It's gotten to the point where people have given up looking for it, because they feel it's not going to be there.
Yes, there are too many of these "reality" shows, which appear to be scripted anyway.
Yes, any political correctness at all is too much. This deleting un-PC words from reruns of 70's & 80's shows has got to stop.
And yes, there is too much advertising, for lesser and lesser-quality products and services. The channels, rerun "networks", etc. could chop off perhaps half of this dollar-a-holler commercial time, and use the time that's left to run some $2 spots for better-quality products instead. Perhaps then, they wouldn't feel any need to chop up or speed up shows.
As a result of these and other things, cable TV subscriptions are going down, and TV viewership in general is dropping. We are going to keep sounding the alarm until the media higherups do, indeed, "get it". They obviously haven't yet.
James 02-06-2012, 03:23 AM My vote goes to NBC. That network had the audacity to hire Howard Stern to be a judge on America's Got Talent. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BANNED BY THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY FOR HIS SICK JOKE ABOUT THE COLUMBINE MASSACRE IN COLORADO IN 1999!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know about that, but who did? Who watches NBC anymore?
Well, except for the Super Bowl, of course . . .

Ryan Chamberlain 02-08-2012, 07:32 PM MTV
VH1 (They've gone the route of MTV. At least they still play some videos)
Nick at Nite (used to be older shows. Now it's mostly late 90s and 00s crap)
All of the CBS networks (formally Viacom) have fallen pretty far.
Steve M. 02-09-2012, 12:13 AM VH1 (They've gone the route of MTV. At least they still play some videos)
They used to play 1960 and 1970s rockers. Now they have shows like . . . "Love And Hip-Hop?" F:censored: that! Hmph, at least I can still see those old "Beat-Club" excerpts from Germany on YouTube!
Nick at Nite (used to be older shows. Now it's mostly late 90s and 00s crap)
Bring back "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." PLEASE!
WalrusIsPaul 02-09-2012, 10:59 AM In my opinion for worst stations and ones i avoid now. And years ago these were some of my favorite channels, watched them a lot and taped a lot off them
VH1- loved this channel when it showed Behind The Music, American Bandstand, 8-trach flashback, specials they had, Legends, Midnight special. I can't remember the last time i watched the channel
Syfy- used to love that channel when i showed a lot of older shows
Nick@Nite & TV Land- favorite channels when back in the day nick would show classics and tvland actually showed a lot of good shows. Theres many others too. Its shame that the networks i find awful i used to love.
WalrusIsPaul 02-09-2012, 11:06 AM Although the station hasn't gone on the air yet. I got a feeling that the WWE Network is not going to be what i and a lot of classic wrestling fans hope it is mostly. Hoping the WWE utilizes its vast library of tapes of WWWF from the 70s and, AWA, World Class, Madison square garden shows, any JCP they have and georgia they may have. and what ever else they have. i got a feeling a lot thats going to be few and far between. If they show a lot of newer stuff and these original reality shows they have talked about, wwe network i will add to worst networks. it's a station i always hoped for too
TVFactFan 02-10-2012, 01:06 AM tv land is definitely the worst channel right now due to
decreased classic tv and horrendous cuts to episodes

Cuts? They still do that?
Sterling Holobyte 02-10-2012, 11:42 AM Do we have to pick just one?;)
I think it would be faster if I just post the channels I think are the best:
1. Hallmark.
2.

The worst cuts are for the shows that are not in primetime

ComedyGuy 02-18-2012, 11:55 AM syfy went downhill after they changed the spelling of their name and started to air wrestling, c'mon now how is wrestling SciFi or SyFy.
MTV sucks since it is no longer about music
TVLAND is still lame
The Channels I watch are .......
A&E
Lifetime
History
Discovery
TruTV
MeTV
Antenna TV
I rarely watch anything in NBC, ABC FOX or CBS

I think it will be what people want with WWE, NWA/WCW, ECW, WCCW etc. Right now, it doesnt look like its going to get off the ground yet but if we have to wait for the channel to start, thats fine. If it shows all the old stuff than the wait will be worth it.

To be fair I watch Beavis and Butthead, The Real World and The Challenge. But your right about lack of music videos. Everybody seems to see it except the people who run MTV.
Case in point, did you know MTV didnt air the Whitney Houston Funeral. Why, you may ask, because they were showing episodes of the Jersey Shore. Does that really surprise you?
As far as worst channels go, what about Hallmark Channel? If there not cutting up episodes all around, they dont air the end credits and they move all there shows all around. Ex. The Bob Newhart Show lasted a whole week at 8 am before changing it. One week!! Really??!!

MTV didn't even bother celebrating/acknowledging their 30th anniversary (http://www.facebook.com/pages/MTV-Doesnt-Care-About-Its-30th-Birthday/179359038796492) last August so in a way, I'm not too surprised that they wouldn't air Whitney Houston's funeral.

MTV never cared about musical history, exepct for that brief period when it showed old "classic rock" video clips, so why should it care about its own?

I watched wrestling back in the day and i mean late 60's thru the late 80"s then I couldn't watch it anymore but if a Wrestling Network/Channel would launch and it would show matches from the 50"s thru today then I would watch it for sure.
Could call it. . . . . . .
TWN The Wrestling Network

The BBC? Really? Because here in America, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is turning into a parody of itself, showing John Tesh concerts for Baby Boomers and Lawrence Welk reruns for their parents! And, you also watch PBS in America in 2012 to see what was on the BBC in 1992!
UMFaninMD 03-17-2012, 11:20 AM PBS is good when they aren't doing pledge weeks, which has increased over the last few years. My local affiliate is on its THIRD week of doing their pledge drive and instead of airing programs that get people talking and interested in PBS, such as Downtown Abbey or any of the contemporary British dramas, they air three hour music nostalgia specials and nonstop two-hour infomercials. And sadly, it's that boring programming that brings in the dollars! But at least they're going to show the second season of Sherlock, which BBC America should be doing but won't because they're too interested in airing X-Files and Star Trek: TNG reruns.

:) yes, definitely. programming on BBC in the U.K is as bad as in the U.S. also, i know we don't have CBS, fox, NBC etc here, but i do regularly see the tv listings for those networks online weekly, so i am aware which shows are on.

If you're going to go after Fox News, you'll have to say the same about CNN and MSNBC.
megamanj2004 03-20-2012, 02:33 AM If you're going to go after Fox News, you'll have to say the same about CNN and MSNBC.
The same goes for those channels too for being biased in their own rights, but I'm going after FOX not b/c of their supposed bias towards Republicans, which is fine and dandy if they want to cater to Republicans. It's their claims of carrying their slogan about what they call "fair and balanced" and their uber-questionable practices about "fair and balanced" by cutting off guests' mics when they won't kiss their backsides, is not exactly what you would call "fair and balanced."
I honestly rather not even try to figure out what they call fair and balanced and yet they seem to be a mostly-Republican channel but yet they dog their own party runners like Ron Paul by saying he's a non-factor and yet don't give him the same press the way they give other candidates like Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.
Hmmmph. "Fair and balanced."

My local PBS affiliate never really does a standard week dedicated to pledging and I approve of that format. What they do instead is show random pledge programming throughout the schedule year round so it never seems too invasive. I don't ever recall them specifically having a pledge week. However they carry 3 digital subchannels - 2 of which seem to be loaded to the gills 24/7 with pledge programming. I'm assuming the only people who watch that boring crap are the handful of wealthier donors. They never show award-winning material like Masterpiece, NOVA or American Experience and beg for money at the same time. And honestly, I hope it stays that way.
loaferman 03-20-2012, 03:48 PM TVLand by far. Waaaay too many episodes of the same show in a row - currently it is MASH during the hours I am at home, and tons of commercials, on-screen ads and scrunched end titles. Once upon a time I got to see TV Land only while on vacation and hope someday to have it. Now I can barely be bothered to pick up the remote to tune to it. I occasionally flip buy to play "guess if it will be MASH or a commercial".

I despise it whenever I go somewhere and they have one of those Monitors in a Waiting Room that spews out "The Woes of the World" for you to see and hear, whether you want to or not. People have obviously complained, as some places have muted the sound on their monitors, and I have noticed some airports have "Staggered" their monitors, so every other monitor shows the News (The other monitors usually show ESPN - The only Bad News that comes out of them occurs when your Favorate Team LOSES a Big Game). :crybaby:

I can't stand it either and what's really bad is that all the McDonalds' around here that have TV's in the dining room keep it tuned to either Fox News or MSNBC. Is it that difficult to find a non-offensive non-news station? I think more people would rather have sitcom reruns or those judge shows on than people blathering non-stop about politics and whatever mess Kim Kardashian gets herself into. How about the Weather Channel?

TWC's Vivian Brown is hot. :) :D
Regulus 03-27-2012, 09:59 PM As I mentioned in my earlier post. Several Establishments have certainly received complaints about News Monitors, as they either mute the sound so they can BARELY be heard, and or they stagger the sets so one shows the news, and another shows Sports. If I walk into a Restaurant (or any other establishment) and they have the News on, I do a 180 and find somewhere else to patronise. I understand there are those out there that absolutly have to get their news morning, noon and night, but on the other side there are those of us who'd rather leave the real world BEHIND us when we decide to go out to eat!
visaman666 03-27-2012, 11:01 PM A&E has really gotten better over the years
Really? You must be a big fan of the censored Sopranos and Storage Wars.
visaman666 03-27-2012, 11:03 PM I didn't know about that, but who did? Who watches NBC anymore?
Well, except for the Super Bowl, of course . . .
And The Biggest Loser!
visaman666 03-27-2012, 11:08 PM Yes, any political correctness at all is too much. This deleting un-PC words from reruns of 70's & 80's shows has got to stop.[/LIST]
What shows would those be and which words?
70s show watcher 03-28-2012, 01:22 AM The cable news channels really suck, because they rarely tell you anything you don't already know, and it they do, it's bad news you can't do anything about. :(the other day i turned on headline news and there was no news on it just some documentry about someone ive never heard of
