Years ago, when I first moved in to this neighborhood,I saw a cat chasing a german shepherd 3 times his size down the street. He was a big cat (over 20 lbs) and orange in color, well he was supposed to be orange, but he was covered with grease and oil from crawling under warm cars during the winter.Once when it was raining, I looked out my window and saw him sitting on my back porch, that was the only time I got a close look at him. He had a bent tail, a piece of his ear was missing and he had a number of scars on his body that never grew back fur. I felt honored that he chose my porch to stay dry from the rain, after all, he was a neighborhood celebrity. Everyone talked about the orange cat that took on raccoons and possums. He had a little Charles Bronson looking face, same squinty eyes. No wonder all the animals were afraid of him. I tried to get him to come to me but he just walked away and hopped the fence. He didn't trust people, he didn't have to because he didn't need them. It has been a few years since I saw him, he might have finally met his match in a fight, more likely he died of old age.

I think that's a very sad story. It appears that the poor cat lived a life without being loved and nurtured, and had to hunt for every meal. No domesticated animal deserves that kind of life.
