Not sure if this has been posted yet or not. In a recent article (12/22/11) on the case, it was revealed that in 2007 police identified DNA evidence pertaining to the killer of Rhonda Hinson:
(Investigators) Weatherman and Sharpe realized one of the few pieces of evidence kept at the sheriff’s office, Hinson’s sweater, likely contained DNA from the person who pulled her from the car.
They sent the sweater to an SBI lab and found DNA in the armpits that did not belong to Hinson.
A DNA profile is logged in state and national DNA databases, and the sheriff’s office is just waiting for someone to enter a match.
New DNA samples are entered into these databases daily, including samples from every person in North Carolina charged with a felony and many convicts, and Weatherman is hopeful this is how investigators will crack the case.
My feeling is hopefully the fact that there is now a DNA profile available pertaining to Rhonda's killer, that maybe like in the case of Veronica "Tina" Jefferson this will lead to a definitive identification of the individual responsible for Rhonda Hinson's death.

This is good to hear. Hopefully this will lead to whomever killed her. I wonder if they also pulled DNA/fibers from her car, since witnesses reported seeing a man in her car while it was in the ditch. I'm glad there's people out there still looking at cases like these.

Wonderful news! This needs to be solved and hopefully they are closer now to figuring it out.

Good news...there's no doubt in my mind this case will be solved, it's just a matter of time.

It feels like a long shot but I really hope something comes of this.
I never could figure out why that dude pulled her from her car in the first place. If he was trying to find out if she was still alive, he could have just felt for a pulse. What was the point of pulling her to the ground?

It makes you wonder if the man who moved her body was Rhonda's killer. And if so, it may have been someone she knew.
I've heard of numerous homicide cases where murder victims were moved to a certain place or positioned in a certain way. How a murder victim is placed can often hint the relationship between the killer and victim. If for example, a murder victim is found in bed completely covered by the sheets, it is considered likely that the victim knew the killer.

Good point Kane and it makes me wonder whether the investigators know something that they aren't telling us. As I remember some allusions were made in the UM segment about the man whom pulled Hinson from the car possibly not being the killer. However, nothing like that is mentioned in the recent article. Has evidence since come to light to lead investigators to believe without a shadow of a doubt that the man seen with Rhonda after the murder was her killer?

I always wondered if the police knew more than they were letting on. Obviously, pertinent information is withheld from probably every case presented on UM. However, certain comments made during the segment left me with the impression that the police knew who was behind Rhonda's death, yet lacked sufficient evidence to move in to a prosecutorial phase.

I always thought there were two people involved, one who had some sort of conscious which is why he went back to check and see if she were alive. Remember the eyewitness saw a car speeding out of the area as he was approaching Rhonda's car? I think that was the other person involved.

That is very common. It also explains why someone's status as a suspect in an unsolved criminal case is not always public information. It may be a situation where mere suspicion isn't enough to publicly out someone as a suspect.
