Disney Junior to Replace SoapNet in March
Jan 9, 2012
by Michael Schneider

Disney Channel has confirmed a launch date for its new 24-hour preschool channel. Disney Junior will replace SoapNet on most cable and satellite systems at midnight on Friday, March 23.

The new cable network, an offshoot of Disney Channel's Disney Junior block, will launch with the new animated series "Doc McStuffins". That show, about a six-year-old girl who nurses her sick toys back to health, is one of several new programs that will make their debut on Disney Junior.

A handful of viewers will still receive SoapNet after March 22, but only because a few cable and satellite deals with Disney are still being finalized. Once those deals are done, SoapNet will completely shut down.

I am going to miss SOAPNET. It was the new way to watch soaps. (Deep sigh)

We could never get SoapNet but it would have been nice to have. I guess it;s fitting that it's going away since it seems that all the soaps are disappearing as well.

This pisses me off. The little kids have enough channels channel 13, sprout,Nick Jr/Noggin, Boomerang, lets not forget Nickelodeon and Disney channel playing the little kids shows early in the morning.

Lets us adults keep some of our channels jeez.A lot of the soaps went off and only days and GH are left however soapnet can play some past episodes like they do with ACM and OLTL I missed out on many episodes in the past.

I wish Disney had a channel for those of us who grew up watching Disney's Wonderful World of Color. A little something for the grown ups would be nice.

I agree...

I hope The Disney Channel would return the vault back at midnight and perhaps have some of the 80's and 90's cartoons on The Disney Channel as well.

I would LOVE that!

I think a 24 hour pre-school channel is a terrible idea because some parents will be inclined to use it as a babysitter. Children need to be doing things that don't involve a remote control or a couch. Aren't we fat and lazy enough?
