Wouldn't it have been too controversial back then to have Gloria & Lionel as a couple? I'm guessing most sponsors would have stayed away from it and the Bible-Belt probably would have boycotted it. Some things/attitudes in the late 60's & early 70's were slow to change, especially in the south.

For whatever it's worth, if I was Gloria, I totally would've chosen Lionel over Mike. Lionel was fun, funny, warm, smart and CUTE. :drool:

If George had a problem with Lionel marrying Jenny (the product of an interracial marriage), there's no way he'd let a white girl live under his roof! He and George would definitely have been united in their protest.
