Have any of you guys had a chance to watch "Disappeared" on the ID channel on a regular basis? It is the closest thing to Unsolved Mysteries that I have ever seen. You can tell that in some of the cases, the person has obviously been murdered and in others they have disappeared. In some, you have no idea. They even have a narrarator with a semi eerie voice but nothing like Stack's.

Anyway, if you havent seen this show, I definitely recommend it because when watching it, I feel like I'm watching Unsolved Mysteries (minus the lost loves and ghost episodes) all over again.

I don't get the ID channel where I live, but there there are plenty of episodes of the show available for viewing on the forbidden site, and I've become quite a "Disappeared" addict this past year. Some of the disappearances are pretty baffling and it's great that they can devote a full 45 minutes to examining the cases from every angle as opposed to brief segment on the news. I also like how they will cover some disappearances that have been solved, just to show the methods involved in finding the victim, such as the Colleen Orsborn case, where she was finally IDed as a Jane Doe after she had been mistakenly ruled out for years.

It may not be as great as old-school UM, but nothing possibly could be, and this show is the closest thing we've got nowadays. However, I do always ponder how nightmare-inducing scary some of these cases probably would have been with old-school UM production values, music and Robert Stack's voice-over. I remember watching the episode about the disappearance of the Jamison family and thinking about how they would have managed to make that last-known photo of Madysson feel like the scariest thing ever.

I love this show! One thing I really like about it is that they cover both high-profile and somewhat "famous" missing persons cases (like Ray Gricar or the McStay family) as well as cases that are unlikely to get much attention...I like the fact that the show doesn't simply focus on young photogenic white women from upper-middle-class backgrounds. It does a great job of trying to include as many of the disappeared as possible.

Oh yeah, I find myself watching "Disappeared" whenever it's on. I've watched the one about Rachel Cooke several times...it's hard to believe that in a few days, it'll be the 10th anniversary of her disappearance (Jan. 10th). Such a sad case.

The one that really tugged at my heart was the disappearance of Steven Koechner. College graduate who was desperately looking for a job. He finally found a job going door to door advertising. He pulled into a wealthy neighborhood in Henderson, Nevada and was never seen again. His father's testimony on the show about his son was very sad as well.

I agree. It's an excellent show.

I found that to be one of the saddest episodes as well. I kind of identified with Koecher, because I also majored in journalism and dreamed of a writing-related career, only to see that goal get annihilated by the recession. I've spent countless hours "pounding the pavement" like Koecher did to try and find work, and man.....I just feel so bad for him. He seemed like a really nice guy who was just trying to fit in and do the right thing. I would love to see this case resolved someday; in addition to being heartbreaking, it's also truly baffling!

I switched cable companies a few months ago and now I get ID and watch Disappeared whenever it comes on. I also like that they mix things up - there are cases where the person is still missing, cases where the body has been found,and cases where the person has been found alive (like the woman who was trapped in her car for 8 days after an accident).

Great show. I don't have the channel, but catch them online. Really good writing and interviewing. Fairly close to UM, but it needs a narrator as powerful as Stack for that extra special chill. And no one I know of comes close.

I do agree that he is not as creepy as Stack but his voice is perfect for the show IMO.

Disappeared is a fab show! Definitely one program that made me an ID Channel addict!

Just FYI, it appears as though Paige Birgfeld's remains have been found. Hopefully this will lead to an arrest...
