View Full Version : Janet Hubert (Aunt Viv) Calls Will Smith An A-Hole During Radio Interview

The woman who played the original Aunt Viv on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" says there's a damn good reason she wasn't at a recent reunion dinner with the rest of the Banks family -- she HATES Will Smith.

15 years after the show went off the air ... Janet Hubert tells TMZ she's still upset with the way she was fired from the show ... and blames the whole thing on Smith himself.

"There will never be a reunion ... as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith," Hubert said.

She adds, "He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn't know the word."

Hubert has said in the past she believes Smith is to blame for her departure in the middle of the show's run -- claiming he turned on her because she wouldn't kiss his butt.

But Smith refuted the claims after Hubert left the show in 1993 -- telling an Atlanta radio station Hubert simply had a bad attitude which played a major role in her demise.

Smith told the radio station, "[Hubert] said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.' No matter what, to her I'm just the AntiChrist."

We called Smith for comment -- so far, no response.

Time to get over it Janet.

I don't know what her issues were, but she should have just done her job and stopped the complaining. The show wasn't called Aunt Viv of Bel Air.

I know this sounds controversial, but I'm on Janet's side. Will Smith acted like a total Diva towards her, and never (and I mean never apologized for it).

Janet has every right to continue holding a grudge towards him.

Such an unfortunate situation.

I really thought Janet was great in TFPOBA...but it was unrealistic to think the show was going to center around her.

And once ego gets in the way, and I'm sure there was lots on both sides, things can get pretty ugly.

Maybe at some point Janet can admit she was wrong, and Will can admit he was hardly a prince (pardon the pun), and they can at least be civil.

Although that may be pretty unrealistic, too.

She probably is still bitter because she was not a success after the firing. LOL\

I don't remember seeing her on anything after 1993

Saw that she been on ONE LIFE TO LIVE since from 2005 to 2010. That was the only thing she did long term since 1993. Just guest spots on other shows

Well that's why I never saw her again because I was never a fan of the Bernie Mac Show and wasn't into Soap Operas

Very true, meanwhile Will Smith became a HUGE movie star. His kids Jayden and Willow probably have more successful careers than Janet Hubert right now. LOL

I know. lol It's time to get over it. I prefered Janet to Daphne on the Fresh Prince but it's long gone. I don't know who's to blame and I don't care. Life's too short to fight like this.

It's so funny - I always preferred Janet Hubert as Aunt Viv, while my sister liked Daphne Maxwell Reid better.

But some times, it doesn't matter how many years have passed. An injustice will still hurt. But I have no idea what happened in this case, as I wasn't there. Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro have both put the blame on her, claiming that she had a bad attitude, and that was why she eventually got fired. Alfonso has said that she was a wonderful actress, but that while the rest of the cast members became like a real family, she never really fitted in. And like someone said on the "Fresh Prince" board at IMDB: considering how all the other cast members are still friendly with Will Smith, you have to wonder where the problem really lies...

Probably because the second mom had a minor role and was not as vocal because they probably wanted viewers to forget that she was a replacement

On Roseanne there's an episode with the new Becky and they're watching Bewitched. Roseanne mentions how she can't believe they replaced Darren as if no one would notice. The new Becky says she likes the new Darren more.

IMDB is one, lazy website. They don't check to see if the five years were actually consistent. She recurred during spring of 2005 and did not appear again until 2010. I know this because I watched OLTL faithfully. Her jobs were very limited.

Bewitched theme plays as the Conner family watches the tv show.

Roseanne: Bewitched. Look at them trying to trying to use two Darrins.
Jackie: Well, it was a hit show and they figured that they could get away with it.
Becky #2: Well, I like the second Darrin muuuuch better.

You really didn't have to act alongside Will Smith to know that he is and was an ego-maniac. He's a rapper...and as we all know rappers consider themselves to be Number #1 and everyone else Suckas. Also, look at the 100's of times during the show he would look directly at and mug for the camera. It was like the television screen was his personal mirror or something. It was HIS world and we were all just here to watch him live it. Yeah, I can easily believe3that his self-consuming ego and direct rudeness drove her off the show - after the first few seasons, I couldn't take any more my damn self.

I've always thought Janet was the problem, when everyone is able to co-exist and get along, EXCEPT YOU, chances are, you're the problem. When no one has anything bad to say about anyone else, EXCEPT YOU, chances are, you're the problem.

The sad irony is that in some respects, Janet arguably does have some legitimate points. It's just that with her tone and downright uncouth mouth, easily people get lost on what she's saying and focus on her delivery.
