Anyone else besides me just not feeling Christmas?

I still like Christmas but commercialism definitely has taken out a lot of the fun of celebrating the holidays.

^ Very true, the stores start putting out Christmas merchandise before Halloween to try to get everyone to spend more. So by the time Christmas rolls around we're already tired of it & the holidays really don't feel as special. :(

I have great memories of Christmas as a kid but really haven't felt that old magic for a very long time. After my dad passed, things were different, and now with my mom and brother gone, it's just something I kind of get through. No "poor me" speeches or anything...it's just that there's so much hype and materialism surrounding it, that without a family I don't feel the spark. I'm happy for everyone who does, and will not be a Grinch.

Just don't make me listen to some of those sad songs...

Because of in-laws and work/school schedules my family always does the Christmas thing before Christmas.We pick a day when everyone is available. In fact tonight I am having my family over for dinner then opening gifts after. Then on Christmas Day my Mom has dinner and most of my siblings and their families come. So by having my Christmas a few days earlier it kind of is a letdown by Christmas Day. But usually I manage to keep the spirit.:santa2: :santa:

I IGNORE the :angryfire COMMERCIALISM :angryfire, doing most of my Christmas Shopping while I'm on Vacation (I look for locally-made Handicrafts and Jewelry wherever I'm at). :D Earlier this year, I was on a Mission Trip with my Church in Brazil, and we stopped at a Craft Shop where I wiped out my list in less han an hour! :lol: I have been spending the last three weeks ENJOYING all of the Holiday Festivities, including Two Tree-Lighting Cerimonies, Two Concerts, Five Parades and a Simulation of the Town of Bethlehem. This Saturday I will attend three Christmas Eve Services at three differant Churchs before celebrating Christmas with Friends and Family :snowman: :santa2: :cc: :snowman3: :rednose: :santa: :tree:

I also visited two Theme Parks to check out their Christmas Festivities. :lol:

Since the stores started putting out Christmas merchandise before Halloween it now feels like we all miss the celebration of Thanksgiving because of Black Friday.

I'm not feeling it either - with yet another job rejection, among other things, I haven't felt this depressed in a long time. :(

Same here no family either and I'm finding that I really don't fit in anywhere either. I'm low on funds right now which doesn't help.

One thing to be said about Christmas, I hear from people that I almost forgot about (Christmas cards). But each year I get fewer as people pass away. I had an uncle on the west coast that I would exchange cards with each year,I didn't get one from him last year, His daughter wrote to tell me he had died. If it wasn't for christmas I would never had known that. It can sure get depressing this time of year.

I hear that - in the past couple of weeks, two people from my church have passed away (one of them a 4-month-old baby boy who had SIDS) and yesterday we got word that my great-aunt suddenly died. It doesn't exactly help one's morale. :(

Yeah, it's really a shame too since Black Friday gets more attention than the actual holiday of Thanksgiving. :(

Sorry things are going so slow in the job hunt. Maybe 2012 will be better for you. I used to give myself little pep talks when I was between jobs, it may sound silly but it really did help my outlook & it kept me from getting depressed.

The only thing about Christmas I care about is getting a good dinner. Other than that, the best thing about Christmas is December 26th.

That's about the way it is for me too. I love the food but other then that, it isn't what it used to be for me.

I saw some pictures I scanned and sent an e-mail to my dad because I wasn't 100 percent sure who the people were. I thought they were my dad's aunt who are on my grandfather's side. The aunt and uncle of my dad's did look elderly and I wanted to make sure they are who I thought they were. I didn't know the husband's name but the aunt, I did. Pictures were from '91.

Turns out they were who I thought they were then my dad said that he used to get Christmas cards from them each year. But he hasn't gotten any in a long time so he figured they had passed on. I guess he isn't close to the aunt's kids so he doesn't really know.

But it is sad when you stop getting things from people and you wonder. :(

I was going to quote some of you guys but Im in the same boat. My grandfather passed away in 2006 and my grandmother passed away on Dec. 30, 2011 and its not the same. I just think its one of those things you just get through. No Christmas tree this year because of my grandmother's passing. Not really a lot of gifts either because financially its just not there. I mean its either pay bills and pay for food or buy gifts. What would you do?

Also, no job for me and it pretty much sucks. I think thats the reason people are not feeling Christmas. People pass away and there is no jobs out there and no prospects. And I think you guys would agree that even if you lose a family member a year ago or 5 yrs. ago, its just not the same.

It would feel more like Christmas if there was snow on the ground and the temperature was below 32 degrees

I was yesterday when i hosted a small dinner party. I usually just get the whole Christmas spirit for a couple of days before Christmas and then on Christmas day. It's not something you can feel for the whole month i don't think unless you are psychotic or something.

Don't let it get you down, Monika. I always try to look at the positive
things in life during the holiday season. Whenever you feel down, just
try to think of those positive things.

I'm not into the Christmas season like I used to be. I used to watch Christmas specials until I was sick of them, listen to Christmas music until my head was spinning and go to Christmas displays and so forth like crazy. Really wish I could get back into that mode again.

I couldn't get into the Christmas Spirit this year, my aunt died on Christmas Day and now I'm tempted to take-down all my Christmas stuff and it's not even New Years Yet.

Very sorry about your aunt's passing. I ended up having a good Christmas after all and for that I am grateful.
