The author Michael Starr was on Good Day NY today and gave a few nuggets from the book that I didn't know...

Redd Foxx grew up with Malcolm X and were great friends. (The use to hustle together)

Redd Foxx use to wear a little spoon around his neck during the tapings of Sanford & Son to snort cocaine during breaks.

Redd Foxx wanted to be a Blues singer originally but turned to comedy when the singing career didn't pan out.

Demond Wilson was NOT interviewed for the book because he demanded to be paid for talking. LOL

The thing about the coke spoon doesn't surprise me, as it was pretty well known that Redd was a cokehead back in those days.

Then again, it was the '70s and most of Hollywood was probably coked to the gills.

I read somewhere Redd Foxx wore a golden coke spoon around his neck while filming so he could toot backstage. Watch "Wine, Women and Aunt Esther" when he starts dancing with the other guys while waiting for Fast Fanny and her friends to arrive. I think that might be it concealed under the orange turtleneck he wore under his Superfly suit.

Demond Wilson wrote his own book, so I highly doubt that he would share information when he has his own out there as well.
