Ed Asner will guest-star on Hawaii Five-0 this spring, reprising a role he created back in 1975, on the original version of the series. Per Deadline, Asner will again play August March, who 36 years ago was an up-and-coming smuggler. Now, after serving three decades behind bars, March is called on by the current Five-0 team to consult on a case. Footage from Asner’s original appearance will be used in the episode.

Hawaii Five-0, as previously announced, will tap into the past — namely, that of the CBS drama’s original incarnation — when Ed Asner reprises a role he first played more than 30 years ago. And TVLine has a first look at the seven-time Emmy winner’s encore.

In the episode airing March 19, Asner will again portray August March, who in the 1975 episode “Wooden Model of a Rat” was an up-and-coming world-class smuggler. When today’s Five-0 team needs advice on a case involving smuggled gems, they turn to March, who’s now living free after serving 30 years in the joint.

As an added call-back, the new episode will weave in original footage from Asner’s original guest-starring appearance.

It wasn't that confusing because they showed only the clip of him. They didn't show any clips of Jack Lord or the other Five-O team.

It's not as good as the old one but it is an entertaining show if you like Buddy cop dramas. I Hate remakes but it's one of the few I like.
