Now that this show is on 10X a week on Antenna TV in my area, I get a nice chance to re-visit it often.

I always remembered loving the way Ester and Fred would go at each other. While everyone on the show was fine, I thought Lawanda sparkled....she added SO MUCH to the show...and I always look forward to seeing her on it...especially when she fights with Fred.

Ironically, in real life Lawanda and Fred were close friends.

I LOVE LaWanda Page and her role as Aunt Esther!! I agree, she really sparkled and scenes with her were priceless. Besides Fred and Lamont, I'd say she was the most important character.

Amen to that! I just watched an ep (think it was called "My Fair Ester") where her & Fred do a duet for a talent portion of a contest. The insults are a blast in the middle of their singing.

I remember seeing a news clip of the crowd at Redd Foxx's funeral. One shot in particular was of Lawanda Page led away sobbing from the casket. It broke my heart then and the memory makes me choke up lo these many years later. Shows you how close they were in real life, and, even though they were written basically as enemies on SnS, I think their affection for each other was always just below the surface on the show.
