Was there an underrated detective? One that didn't get the best assignments or laughs, but you felt was very good?

I think I would have to go with Chano, seeing that he was let go early on, without any explanation.

Chano.

Not because he didn't get laughs but (like markway said) because he was let go.

Great character, great actor, perfect fit for the show.

I wish he would have stayed.

I think Det. Sgt. Chano Amenguale was underrated...shame Gregory Sierra didn't last beyond season two. I think Chano's shining moment was in the season one finale "The Hero," where he foils a bank robbery by shooting the robber(s) fatally. Chano expresses regret for killing the robber(s). Wonderful episode.

Wait... Your saying that Nick was underrated?? That's crazy. He was one of the best characters. I think it was Wentworth (Linda Lavin), because she was only in 4 episodes I think. She left after season 2 for the starring role in "Alice". Chano (Gregory Sierra) left so he could do another sitcom, where he had the starring role I believe, but it only had 4 or 5 episodes. I guess by that point they already established that he was transferred to another precinct (I believe in the episode when they introduced Wentworth) and they couldn't write him into the show again. After that though he got a recurring role on Sanford And Son as "Julio Fuentes".

Did Yemana ever go out on arrests? It's been a long time since I watched but I can't recall Barney sending him out. He must've right?

Chano. He was a great character and detective. I wish they had kept him on.
