It's a good thing that George Wilson was retired...because otherwise he never could've found the time for his many hobbies and interests!
Just off the top of my head...here's some things that must've kept ol' GW quite occupied. Most of these pastimes also involved clubs, meetings,or get-togethers,so I'm sure he had a rather busy schedule!
Gardening
Coin collecting
Birdwatching
Astrology
Stamp collecting
Antique cars
The Pioneer Club
Fishing
Hunting
Attends church
Goes to auctions
Dabbles in real estate
He also found time to take a position at the bank, and run for office...along with helping Dennis out with soapbox derbys, frog jumping contests, school presentations, the Pee Wee League, the Junior Pathfinders, making a film documentary, and numerous other endeavors...whatta guy!

He might just have the most hobbies of any sitcom character ever!
The writers probably went a little overboard there, but in a way it's nice to see that when he retired he really enjoyed life and wasn't going to be someone who sits in his house all day doing nothing. I'd like to think that I'll keep busy in my old age too...but not that many hobbies. Three or four of those would be enough for me. :D

And that doesn't include the getaways he and Martha would take to the country.

Sorry, but really most of those activities are not that time consuming. I know, I've done many of them.
Going to church..once a week for an hour or so.
Fishing....perhaps twice a month for an average person?
Hunting...not often, one wouldn't do this much per year.
Auctions...you certainly don't do this every day, and not all auctions are worth going to.
Same goes for birdwatching, coin collecting...you don't spend a large amount of time on these. So all in all, there is plenty of time during the week to do many of these things since many aren't even done once a week.
