Keck's Exclusives: "Castle" Flashes Back to the '40s
Nov 28, 2011
by William Keck

I was recently invited by the Screen Actors Guild to moderate a panel with "Castle" beauty Stana Katic, who let slip that the ABC show is planning a film-noir episode.

Exec producer Andrew Marlowe confirms a February sweeps installment will find Castle and Beckett imagining themselves in the 1940s, with Nathan Fillion suited up as a Sam Spade—type PI and Stana as a gangster's moll.

Then in the spring, Castle and Beckett will trip the light fantastic in a "Dancing With the Stars"-themed episode timed to that show's return.

But don't look for Tom Bergeron to make a cameo. Says Andrew: "Unfortunately, we already killed Tom in 2010 when he played a talk-show host."

First Look: Castle Gets Sexy

Perhaps no series is better suited to a 1940s film-noir homage than ABC's "Castle", which goes back in time on February 6.

"Castle comes across a diary that links the events of a murder back to 1947," explains exec producer Andrew Marlowe. "As he reads, he pictures himself as a '40s P.I. and Stana as a gangster's moll who owns a nightclub. Our fans will fall in love with Stana all over again."

As will Castle's P.I. character, Joe. "They spot each other in the club and fall instantly," says Katic. "As in most stories from the '40s, it takes about four days for them to be crazy in love."

And yes, there is a kiss!
