My worst happened tonight. My husband and I went shopping. I went in Target while he waited in the car. I tripped over something, and I landed flat out. Every bone in my body hurt. What bothered me was how people just stand over you and stare.

I got hit by a car when I was 15. Bad head gash and a broken foot. Now that I think of it, that's my worst wipeout. The accident was lousy; riding my bike and getting hit from behind....flying through the air and landing on the hard cement. It hurt so bad, but what bothered me the most was all the strangers staring at me. A nice man was leaning over me, and he told them to back off when I started crying about everyone staring.

Same thing tonight. I told the cop to tell the people to stop staring, and he did. Told them to move along. I couldn't get up because I was dizzy and hurting. They went outside and got Lou. That's my tale of woe.

As for me, I was in New York City running for a bus to get back home from work. It was an ice storm out and I slipped and fell in front of Trump Towers. At first, I was so embarrassed, I got right back up and caught the bus. Later though, I felt dizzy and woozy and found out that I suffered a concussion. I was on the shelf for about 2 weeks out of work.

So sorry for your experience, Janice. Hopefully you'll be free of pain soon, if you're not already.

Well, I got run over by a car once and that was pretty bad. I was a kid laying out at the beach and a guy backed his car over me, (my leg and arm - longwise).That is no fun, especially when I had to sit in ER all sandy in my bikini.
No injuries except some tire track marks that faded after awhile.

I'm sorry to hear you got hurt Janice. That's awful. I don't knwo why people stare when someone gets hurt instead of trying to help. I hope the pain you suffered when you fell doesn't make your chronic pain worse.

I have had many wipeouts unfortunately due to my vision.

Falling off the roof.

My worst was on Thanksgiving day in 1992. The family was having dinner at my grandparents house that day and my grandmother had a poodle and used one of those baby gates to keep him away from the dining room. My mom asked me to get some stuff out of the car which included a box of mason jars. I opened the gate while my grandmother closed it back and got the boxes. I had them at eye-level and had assumed that my grandmother or someone was waiting for me so that they could open the gate and close it again. This was not to be, my grandmother was on the phone and everyone else was at the table preparing to eat so I just tumbled over the gate and fell face-first onto the floor. The jars were on the bottom and the force caused a few to break but luckily I wasn't cut except for my face when my glasses smashed into it but it was only minor. I actually wasn't hurt that bad physically, just a couple of small cuts but what really hurt is that no one offered to help me up or even asked if I was ok. 5 of my cousins sat there and laughed about it while I laid there face-down on the floor. I was also invited to eat dinner at my dad's house that day and after regaining my composure, I got in the car and went there.

First of all, Janice, ouch! I'm glad you're alright, but how awful, not to mention humiliating. Sorry you had to endure that.

My worst wipeout happened in 2003 (before I was stricken with RA). I was working late, and had very limited time to catch the bus, otherwise I'd have to wait an hour for the next one. So I went outside and ran across the parking lot to the sidewalk, which was directly across from my bus stop, just in time to see the bus approach. I urgently attempted to dash across the street (which is one of the two busiest arterials in Spokane), and fell off the curb. I wound up spraining my ankle and got a hairline fracture on one of my wrists. The bus driver saw that whole thing, and was amazed I got up so fast.

A few years ago I fell in the crosswalk. I just tripped over my feet. I could barely get up and the cars were all backed up just waiting for me to move. Nobody asked me if I was alright. I managed to stagger over to the sidewalk and sat down. I had sprained my shoulder. It hurt like crazy. I couldn't lift my arm over my head for 3 months.

I fell twice in my own house in the middle of the night a few months ago. I hit my head on the couch the last time and I was bleeding . When I was six, I ran head first into our tv set and I had to go to the hospital. I've just been a klutz my whole life. lol

I fell quickly down 6 subway stairs last May on a rainy night. Must have damaged a ligament or something. I couldn't walk more than 10 blocks daily with a cane for about a month. Now I watch stairs like a hawk and always hold onto the rail.

When I was in 10th grade I was leaving my biology class. I went to the stairs to go down them. On one of the stairs there was clear liquid (probably water) that I couldn't see. I fell down the stiars. I had my backpack on my back plus a few books in my arms (since my backpack was full). I ended up at the bottom of the stiars. Luckily I didn't break anything, but I was very sore.

Three or four years ago (approx) I was coming home from the doctor. My brother and family were visiting. I got home. I got out of the cab and went into the patio. My sister's bike was in the middle of the patio. I didn't see it and fell over it. I landed face down on the ground. I hit the ground with my chin. That really hurt. I have small scar from it.

I'm not sure if this counts as I only ended up sore, but when I was little I went to a horseback riding camp. I was the only one there with a disability. One day all the horses got spooked by a bird. They panicked and ran. Everyone except me fell from the horses. I managed to hold on, but was only half way still on when the horse finally came to a stop. I had a tight grip on the horse as I was terrified of falling.

I was on my horse and she spooked and took off running full speed with me on her back. I had a irrigation canal on one side and pavement on another, so I hung on for dear life. Out of nowhere a field worker stepped in front of us and waved his hands. My horse came to a sudden stop and I flew off landing on hard dirt. I hit the ground pretty hard. I was just banged up and sore. I ended up walking my horse home. I don't know if I thanked the guy. I know I was embarrassed. After a few more incidents with my horse we ended up selling her.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that if there isn't a way to speed up your healing, you can at least find a way to make yourself more comfortable. The last thing you need is more pain.

There's no scientific evidence, but some people claim that a physical traumatic event preceded the onset of their RA. Something to think about.

That sounds rough. I guess a heating pad wouldn't help with being sore all over. The bruises sound awful too. :hug:

I've actually pondered the idea that this incident may have caused the onset of my RA (the symptoms started showing up less than a year later). It was the first time I ever sprained or fractured anything.

Thanks. No, I was not hospitalized. It probably would have been wise to go to the ER just to make sure everything was ok. But, wow, I did learn to be more careful :)

My worst wipe out had to be when my parents, my brother and myself were at someone's house and i was playing in their basement and climbed up on a latter. That was when I heard my parents call my name, I got afraid they would find me on the latter and hurried up and try get down and my foot got caught on one of the steps and I started fall. When this happened I put my hands out and to stop myself and ended up fracturing my wrist.

About four years ago I helped my mother carry a floor 27 inch tv outswide because it no longer worked. I know that tv sounds like it came out of the dinosaur ages, lol. We got it outside. She told me to turn it one way and I misunderstood as she was facing the other direction. The tv gave way and I was afraid it would land on her which would be bad because of the medication she takes. The tv landed on my right foot. It really hurt. Thankfully my foot didn't break. It was black and blue though. Luckily my mother insisted on putting ice on it to keep the swelling down. The different shades it turned while it heeled were ugly.

I did another lamebrain thing today. It wasn't a wipeout, just a STUPID move. I was going into the grocery store, and there was a Salvation Army woman there. I stopped to put money in the kettle. Because we live in such a crazy world, the plastic slot is so thin and if your fingers go in too much, they get pinched. I wanted to give $5. I didn't have a five dollar bill, but I had 4 one dollar bills. I figured that was good. As I'm stuffing them in the slot, my finger got caught. :lol: Not bad so I couldn't get it out fast, but it did sting. Just another Lucille Ball move. :happyface

In July of 1971 I was riding a Bicycle down a hill near Nashville, Tennessee when a bearing gave out causing me to do a spread eagle belly plant on the asphalt, resulting in me getting what I called the ROAD RASH FROM H-E-(Double Hockey Sticks)! OUCH! It took me almost a month to heal.

Well, I've got one for you guys from today.

I was at work, stocking Xmas candy. Take box off 7' high pallet. Don't see another box that was on top of it. Said hiding box slipped off pallet. Said box's path towards the ground happened to be where I was standing. Said box hit me in the face - HARD. Cue instant, explosive nosebleed (it busted some MAJOR blood vessels in my nose). Run like my ass was on fire to the bathroom that was across the store from where I was working.

Took 4 HOURS for the bleeding to stop. Faucet for the first 5 minutes, steady bleeding for the next 1/2 hour after that, on-and-off bleeding for the next 4 hours. I've been advised not to blow my nose at all today and to blow it gently for the next 2 days after that... If I blow my nose again, I could jumpstart another massive nosebleed, and I don't want that.

I had to fill out an incident report, and I ended up leaving work early today. My face feels awful today, like someone punched me in the face... which is what technically happened. Only it was a box. :/

The first Saturday of November 2003.

Between 3:30 and 4 that afternoon, I was riding my bike to the supermarket and I hit the parking lot pavement out in front of the hardware store. I was taken to the hospital, where I received nine stitches and about as many shots of local anesthesia.

I still get headaches in my head's left side from the crash.

I had many as a kid, but the worse one I remember was when I was climbing up into my tree fort, and about seven to ten feet up, I fell and landed back first on the spiked fence. Luckily, I was only about 8 years old, and a durable little SOB, so I recovered quickly.

First off let me just say that I have very senstive ears and am not allowed to get any water in them at all. With that said, around five or six years ago I was around in my neighborhood and someone had one of those sprinklers that wave back and forth and so as a result I started to panic and made a run for it to try and get past it but before I could do it I tripped and fell a few feet away from the person's yard. As a result I hurt my foot and found myself unable to move for a few moments before I was finally able to get up and after a week or so my foot healed. However, I still don't think that it healed quite right because I find it a bit uncomfortable everytime I try to sleep on my stomach.
