Listed below are the reasons that in Today's world, Thelma will NOT be considered as a good woman:

1. NO STABLE JOB
2.CANNOT COOK ( BURNED FOOD ALL THE TIME)
3.STILL LIVING IN THE PROJECTS AS A GROWN MARRIED WOMAN WITH HER MOTHER, LATER TO MOVE OUT YEARS LATER.

Therefore; BESIDES THELMA LOOKS AND HER BODY, WHAT DID SHE HAVE TO OFFER TO BE CONSIDERED A GOOD WOMAN FOR A GOOD MAN?

Taking your reasons in the order you presented them:

1) This is hardly atypical in an economically depressed region in a recession. She's no different than millions of other young women at that time and place.

2) Women are NOT required to be good cooks, anymore than men are. If my wife looked like Thelma, I'd gladly do the cooking!

3) Again, hardly remarkable. She was, what? 21 or so when the show ended? I'd say the woman her age who DOESN'T live at home, married or not, is the rarity!

Thelma was smart, kind and loyal, not to mention extremely attractive. If I were to pick out a sitcom character who would have a hard time finding a man, she'd be FAR down on the list.

Replying to your number 2 answer: so if your wife did NOT look like Thelma, you are basicly saying that you will NOT do the cooking correct?

I don't care if a woman can cook or not. But yes at a certain age I wouldn't be trying to date anyone in the projects.

babysitting is usually a job for a female with limited education and no work experience.

babysitting to women and what Labor is to men. Those are the jobs waiting for people with no education or work experience.

No, I am not. I am saying that your priority of having a woman cook all the time is misplaced and that there are many other, more meaningful and important characteristics to consider. The "lol" should have signaled the light hearted aspect of that post; looks are far from the most important thing, too.

I am more than able to cook for myself and have for many years; anyone who still subscribes to that old role model of NEEDING a woman to cook for them is out of step with the times. With cooking so much easier now, anyway, what with microwaveable meals and instant everything, someone who doesn't work can still provide good meals (and that doesn't HAVE to be the woman!) and not be some sort of Julia Child.

Was the job stable?

Yes, working Retail is a stable job. When I think of jobs that aren't stable I think of Real estate and Construction jobs.

Then why was Florida laid off from the department store?

Then why was Florida laid off from the department store?

Normally in real life when a store has a sales slump, they do not fire their employee’s, they will cut their employee's hours. Florida was in her probationary period so the store manager really did not have to have a reason to get rid of her, but that is with any job.

You are referring to a NANNY

No I mean babysitting, with a lot of Nanny jobs you have to have some kind of schooling or a certificate in Childcare. With Babysitting you can babysit 5 or 6 kids on different days and charge what you want a hr. or day. If you babysit 6 kids a week and charge 50 bucks a child that is $300 a week, $600 every two weeks, $1,200 a month tax free.
