The NY Times says we've reached the "End of Comedy" and that the new batch of sitcoms are telling jokes that fall in five categories that have been told on previous sitcoms.

Old jokes have always been 'recycled',not always of course but in alot of cases, afterall there are only so many ideas. Here's the main difference though, the older sitcoms are good, funny and entertaining. The newer ones are not.And this goes for all genres of television shows.

I sympathize with the writers. Can you imagine the number of sitcoms there have been in the past 50 + years? It must be hard trying to think up new material when practically every story line, joke, and one liner has been said and done. The classic sitcoms of the 50's and 60's had it easy because they had no earlier shows to compete with. One's imagination can only go so far. Also, I would have to disagree with the fact that none of the new shows are funny or entertaining. Modern Family, New Girl, Glee, and Pan Am, are some of my favorites and I would argue that all are entertaining.

And the 70s was a decade of it's own with different/New type of Comedies and shows snd that decade changed for the better I think.

I do not sympathize with the writers. If Hollywood still had good writers even if they copied ideas, they could still produce some good shows.---- Not that I care about Jerry Seinfelds opinion, but he was right in an interview a few years ago. They asked him about 'reality' shows and what he thinks of modern television in general. He said "there is no more talent or creativity left in Hollywood".And he not only meant writers, but actors, producers etc.

Even Seinfeld's comment is recycled, as that's been said about Hollywood for decades.;)

Yeah, that's true.Only in this case it really is accurate.A sidenote: I was a little reluctant to quote Jerry because he got famous in the 1990s when television overall was pretty bad too.lol

They have also been remaking a lot of old movies. Maybe nobody these days has any fresh new idea's.

Some of the movies aren't even that old, some films getting reboots/remakes are from films barely 10 years old.

I know I may be a little extreme, but Hollywood should do the World a favor and just shut it's doors. Remakes or originals, they can't do anything right anymore. It even would make more sense to just re-release some good older movies on the big screen.

That is pretty extreme. While you may not think current shows or movies are good, these shows still get millions of viewers and new movies are still grossing millions of dollars. TV reruns are not bringing in those kind of numbers and replays of old movies would likely not either. Hollywood isn't going anywhere.
