Regis Philbin may be retired from "Live!", but he's hitting the talk show circuit to talk about his new memoir How I Got This Way.
On Wednesday, he stopped by "Good Day NY" where he reminisced about his days hosting the wildly popular "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and joked that the show had saved ABC.
"Who Wants to be a Millionare" was awesome, it was a national conversation, I don't think we had anything like it since.
What are your thoughts looking back?
When I saw that show, I had a copy of it from England, that's where it started, I said 'Wow, this is dynamite! This is great!' They had people walking in off the street and walking out millionaires if they can just answer 15 questions.
I. Want. To. Do. This. Show.
It wasn't even on The Disney.. ABC short-list, they were calling everyone else in town, but I just kept on pursuing it and pursuing it. Then it finally came my way and I was thrilled, I loved doing the show.
Then it caught on, bigger than how I thought it was going to be.
When Rosana Scotto remembered how Regis used to brag about saving the network, he hopped forward in his chair, suddenly excited:
Well they put it on 4x a week on primetime, does that tell you something?!
Regis Continued:
4x a week.. I'll take it while it's on.
That's the kind of show that I think should still be on 8:00 at night on Sunday. A great family show for a change on television. Thank You.
