She was the polar opposite of Mary Richards. She was very needy and lacked self confidence. With all that said, what made her likable?

She was funny, you could easily laugh at her. Also, I think she was more like most people. She is the one that has the hard times with the dates and had the "weight" problem. A lot of girls tend to have those problems, or at least think that they do.

It's funny, because I never saw Rhoda as having a weight problem.

Yes as Miss Lisa said, people could indentify with Rhoda,we've all had friends like Mary Richards, who seem to go through life effortlessly with great dates, its not just women that can relate to that!

I can relate to Rhoda as I was the fat kid at school that no-one wanted in their soccer team,so Rhoda's endless jokes at herself were things,I and so many could relate to.

She was the essential wise cracking,side-kick,Rhoda could perhaps seem aggressive in her pursuit of men,but she'd a heart of Gold, look at her kindness to arch enemy Phyllis when Lars in having the affair.

In later Rhoda, after the break up with Joe,a lot of her MTM years humour had softened and Rhoda could get a bit serious at times thats why I prefer the first three seasons of Rhoda,to seasons 4 and 5.

Rhoda has a great line to Mary on MTM "Mary,I sometimes think you live in a shampoo commercial!".

Great response, so basically when Rhoda matured on her own spinoff, she became unlikeable?

No,Rhoda was always likeable,it was the scripts of Rhoda that nosedived in seasons 4 and particualrly season5.

Stories like "One Is A Number",the one about Rhoda going out on her own came across as quite sad rather than independant.

In later Rhoda,Rhoda's good pals like Susie and Myrna were gone,as I've

stated before,Rhoda working for a man in the clothes hire shop was a bad idea.

the show never really recovered from the break up of Rhoda and Joe but I prefer season 3 to 4 and 5.

Same! I always wondered why she thought she had one. Although, standing next to Mary all the time, I guess I could see where you would start to want to be thinner.
