I have heard that Doris Day had a long affair with Baseball legend Maury Wills, which was taboo back in the sixties, because he was black and she was white. Also I heard that she had relationship with Sly Stone of the famous R&B Group Sly and the Family Stone. I don't know if their is any truth in this, however Maury Wills talks about his relationship with her in his book. Since she did not sue him for defamation, I assume that his account is true. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Doris didn't talk about this in her book but she did talk about Sly, saying she met him one time at Terry's house and neveer had an affair with him.

....are with those animals she lives with and any other creature that she feels needs protection and publicity as such. After Marty Melcher, she NEVER entered into a personal relationship with another man ever again. And from what I know of her past life, I don't blame her!

Of course she dated men after Marty Melcher. In fact, after Marty Melcher, she married again for the fourth time. She had a miserable five-year marriage to a younger man named Barry Comden. That one probably did it for her and sent her running for refuge with her animals.

I never heard about Sly but she was definitely banging Maury Wills. She used to hang around in the 60s in the Dodgers dugout. Supposedly another member of her family was also into shvartzers.

I had a flashback to the scene in That Touch of Mink where she's in the Dodgers dugout yelling at the players.

Great scene!! But actually, she was in the Yankees dugout, with the real Yogi Berra, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle... She argues with the umpire and the umpire comes over to the dugout... she ends up getting all three guys thrown out of the game. And the poor guys were just trying to mind their own business...

The umpire asks Doris to please be quiet and let him call the game. Doris had just disputed a pitch that was called a strike.

Doris asks Maris what he thought about the last pitch, and Maris agrees with Doris that the pitch looked a little outside (even though the ump called it a strike..the Yankees were at bat)...So the ump
throws Maris out of the game.

Then, Doris askes Mantle and Berra what THEY thought of the pitch...Mantle and Berra go out of their way to AGREE with the umpire that the pitch was a perfect strike, and the ump then throws both of THEM out of the game, because the ump thought they were just being wise guys!

Afterward, she's in the car with Cary Grant, saying "I didn't mean to get all those men thrown out of the game" and Grant says to her, "Well, at least they proved they could win without their starting lineup!".

Great scene, great movie!!
