View Full Version : Did NBC Give 'Hello Larry' A Fair Shot to Succeed? Brian Damage 11-18-2011, 12:06 AM Or was it yanked prematurely? http://www.tvofyourlife.com/images/hellolarrylogo.jpg 70s show watcher 11-19-2011, 04:05 AM i think it ended too soon but according to ratings reports from that era there was alot of audience falloff after different strokes and even though i think therre was still room for both shows the bottom line was that the facts of life drew higher ratings than hello larry in the post different strokes slot TVFactFan 11-25-2011, 02:21 PM Or was it yanked prematurely? http://www.tvofyourlife.com/images/hellolarrylogo.jpg Yes NBC connected the show to Diffrent Strokes and viewers still didn't watch the show. They had three crossovers with Diffrent Strokes and that didn't work so the show was just bad. TMC 04-09-2022, 12:34 AM I saw on YouTube a comment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W0EVUbEtYA&lc=UgytIk2Rrh3h9sMquKZ4AaABAg) that addressed the rumor that Johnny Carson was grooming McLean Stevenson to become his permanent co-host on The Tonight Show. But after McLean jumped ship to do Hello, Larry, Carson began continuously making fun of Hello, Larry to the point where the show became a pariah and was canceled after two seasons. opus 04-09-2022, 12:58 AM I saw on YouTube a comment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W0EVUbEtYA&lc=UgytIk2Rrh3h9sMquKZ4AaABAg) that addressed the rumor that Johnny Carson was grooming McLean Stevenson to become his permanent co-host on The Tonight Show. Nothing says accurate like “YouTube comment” TVFactFan 04-09-2022, 01:17 AM Nothing says accurate like “YouTube comment” That still sounds a lot better than..............."I read somewhere" TVFactFan 04-09-2022, 01:21 AM I enjoyed Hello Larry more than these 70's shows Barney Miller Carter Country Fish Phyllis Ropers Duster76 04-11-2022, 10:06 PM I don't know what else the network could have done to help this show. After failing to win an audience during the series' first half season, the show was retooled a bit, moved to a new night, placed behind two successful shows and was allowed to remain in that timeslot for the entire season. 38 episodes is enough of a sample size, the show didn't attract enough of an audience, at some point it becomes a case of throwing good money after bad. This is nothing but cherry picking. If you think Carson was hard on Hello Larry, he was merciless on Fred Silverman, on Super Train. There was nothing new here, does anyone remember how he used to ride Frank Field the New York City weather man when the show was located in New York. How about Mayor Yorty, or Mr. Excitement Tommy Newsom, Johnny lived in this space. TVFactFan 04-11-2022, 11:11 PM I enjoyed watching Hello Larry because of Morgan and the Obese engineer |
