Does anybody consider this to be a LOL comedy or Dramedy?

I'd say Dramedy, same as Eight As Enough...definitely don't consider either sitcoms(and not sure why EAE had a laugh track)

Sorry to revive an old thread but I saw TLB on MeTV and just had to comment on the original poster, in no way is this a comedy and the laugh track is an insult just like the ones used on M.A.S.H.

Fred Grandy's character "Gopher" was often used for comic relief purposes but in general this show was more drama than comedy.

Captain Stubing's 'straight man' responses to everything made it funny. I remember one time he had his cabin painted. Everyone else was calling it 'yellow' while he went around insisting it was 'Singapore Sunset Saffron'.

Cpt. Stubing did well to keep control of that ship of lunatics :lol:

dunno what label it should have but after a couple beers the love boat always makes me laugh but only if the beer is Singapore Sunset Saffron color LOL

I think both. And of course it depended on the guest stars. If you were a fan of who was on certain eps than it made it funnier or a better ep. for you! ;)

It's "amiable." I never watched it in first run, but now can enjoy it as a time capsule of the character actors of the 70s.

I wish MeTV could air this at night instead of Sunday afternoons. I hope Decades will do a marathon sometime.

It did have its funny moments so I would bill it as a dramady.

There were many funny moments on this show. But there were also very stupid moments that were meant to be funny, usually involving Fred Grandy (Gopher)

I don't consider this a "sitcom" per say, but more in lines with a dramedy. Overall, it's a terrific show that needs all 9 seasons released on DVD!

I thought there were plenty of funny moments, but The Love Boat could be dramatic too. Overall a really good show.
