Remember the segment with the Oliver the chimpanzee? Or at least thats what they thought he was, but he walked upright and acted human and man people thought he was a bigfoot?

I wasn't sure what to make of him, I always thought bigfoots were supposed to be larger, at least the figure in the Patterson Gimlin footage is larger.

Does anyone know if they have done DNA testing on him and if he is still alive? I was intrigued by this story, the fact that there wasn't more publicity on him kind of makes me think most scientists and people in anthropology thought he was just an unusual chimp.

Some body was on Coast to Coast AM a few years ago and simply said the DNA testing was botched and Oliver is a normal chimp

I thought I read on here that Oliver was walking upright because he'd been tied to a back board as a baby which basically forced his body to grow into that type of upright posture, similar to chinese foot binding.

Is that the right case?

He was determined to be a normal chimp, IIRC.

I searched here and couldn't find the info, but I didn't really look too hard.... lot's going on here, my parents are packing to go back to FL and it's chaos.

I don't know if it's been mentioned in another thread, but Oliver died on June 2. He was at least 55 years old.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Oliver back in 2005. A family friend worked at Primarily Primates in Texas, and my husband and I got to take a tour.

Oliver was already blind by the time we met him, but he came right up to us and actually reached out and played with my fingers! Very sweet guy :)

"Oliver!...Where's Oliver?!...Oliver my God" and the chimp goes crazy.

Love that scene.

I just watched the segment and up until this point (binging, on season 9), this has been the hardest one to watch. Ugh. That poor chimp.
