View Full Version : Niles-Breast Man or Butt Man?
andress_jade 11-09-2011, 07:35 PM I was watching the episode Three Blind Dates recently. I noticed in the episode Niles seemed to really like breasts. I say that because when he and Daphne were talking about who to set Frasier up with, Daphne mentioned her friend with the big breasts and Niles was practically drooling. Daphne also asked about Lisa, the woman at the bookstore and Niles started to go on about how gorgeous she was until he saw the look Daphne gave him. But on the other hand he was always looking at Daphne's butt, so it's a tough call.
What do you think?
bingbangbaby 11-09-2011, 09:09 PM   That's too funny. He was always looking at her butt-- but if you watch closely he looked at her breasts a lot too. It's not as obvious as when he's looking at her butt, but if you watch his eyes when he's talking to her or listening to her and particularly when she's standing near him talking to someone else, sometimes his eyes drop downward from her face, but not so far down that he's looking at, say, the floor. There's also that time in Semi Decent Proposal/A Passing Fancy when they are trying to sleep in the same bed and she's an active sleeper. When she threw herself onto him in her sleep he rolled her back over onto her side of the bed and went to pull the sheet up for her but not before he pulled it down and looked at her breasts. That was a funny moment because you didn't expect him to do that. There's a time in Dark Side of the Moon that I particularly like when she shows up at his house in that red dress and he takes her coat for her and is rendered speechless ("huh?") at the sight of her bare back in that dress. I like that moment because it's the episode right before Something Borrowed and by then we're supposed to think-- and he's trying to convince himself-- that's he's finally starting to get over her.
So I guess when it came to Daphne, he seemed to be an equal opportunity looker, groping her all over with his eyes at various times. I didn't see him look at many other women, not like he looked at Daphne, anyway, so I guess for other women, based on the example you gave, I'd have to say "breast man." But first and foremost, he seemed to be all about looking at any and every part of Daphne every chance he got. :)
Brian Damage 11-09-2011, 11:28 PM He was BOTH! LOL (Just like any other man)

When it came to Daphne I think he looked at ALL of her! To quote him... "I've spent three years considering Daphne from all angles!"

LOL - LOL! Good Point
born2late 11-10-2011, 02:08 AM I have seen him looking at both, mostly her butt. Guess it was easier to do without getting caught. One of the episodes on Hallmark last night showed Daphne looking at Niles' butt. Can't remember the name of the episode, but it's the one where Daphne gets mad at Sherry and goes to Niles' place, and was going to spend the night. They were talking about how hot it was. Niles leans over and Daphne looks at his butt. The whole scene was funny and sexy. Anybody else see her do that? It's at the 14:33 and 15 minute mark. Two peeks...love it.

Oh man... Daphne Hates Sherry... He looked so HOT in that episode that I can't blame her at all for looking!
born2late 11-10-2011, 02:39 AM I loved the white pants and shirt. I wondered if he had a hairy chest, now I know. :)
born2late 11-10-2011, 07:02 PM Bingo! Love it. I was talking to my bf today about Frasier, and we were talking about Niles and Daphne and how Niles was always drooling over Daphne. I was telling him about her checking out Niles' behind. He said his favorite N/D scene in from Mixed Doubles when Niles meets Daphne in the bar. That is a nice scene. Thanks for posting the picture. :happyface

Uuhhhh, yeah! He looks reallllly good in white. There's a few episodes where he's looking particularly hot-- more so than usual. And a few other times where we get to see his chest too.
andress_jade 11-11-2011, 07:34 PM How about the episode Perspectives on Christmas. We got to see his chest in that one and how incredibly sexy was his "Nurse Daphne" dream? She climbs on him and kisses him! I love it. :happyface
bingbangbaby 11-13-2011, 12:06 AM Speaking of the butt man... this scene makes me laugh. Especially since her mother is in the room.

OMG, I LOVE that scene but it's so heartbreaking.
born2late 11-13-2011, 09:23 PM Yes, it is for both of them. Everyone knows how Niles feels about Daphne, except Daphne. Yet she shows up with a Niles clone. When Niles says "I love you too Daphne at the end," puts a lump in my throat. Gasp, that means my bf has a soft side.

As is so many scenes in the series, I think that is one of DHP's best. If you keep your eyes on him (as I always do :) ) you can see the subtle emotion rising up while he's talking, then overwhelm him after he says "what are you doing for the rest of your life?" as if it was a release just to be able to say those words to her. He's so good at those kinds of scenes. There's a lot of them in the series. The end of Something Borrowed is another one... I still can't figure out how he can make himself physically look like he's been crying for hours in that scene in the Winnebago. Then when he's alone after Martin and Frasier leave he just looks so completely heartbroken and devastated and like he might possibly come apart at any moment. I saw an interview about one of my other favorite actors and the people around her said she is such a good actress because she has the rare ability to completely and totally empathize with and feel what the character is feeling. So if the character is in love, angry, heartbroken or whatever, she feels that too, and then can deliver a phenomenal performance. I think DHP must be like that too.

I agree with this. That is so heartbreaking when he's sitting in the Winnebago. Another one is in "The Maris Counselor" when he comes over to tell Frasier and Martin that it's over between him and Maris and he looks like he's been crying. When Frasier hugs him, I almost fall apart and want to hug him myself. I think this is why I fell in love with the character so quickly. Not too many actors can portray such emotion through their characters that touch viewers hearts.

Yes!
I'm convinced he's feeling it and that's why it comes through so loud and clear in his performances. Apparently (as I mentioned above) that's possible for some people, and those people's performances are clearly different and so much more genuine than most other actors. I don't care how good an "actor" a person is, you really can't act that stuff as convincingly as he does, I don't think, unless he's actually able to feel some or all of it. How else could a man who is not heterosexual so seamlessly, perfectly, believably, 100% convince us that he is so deeply in love with a woman? He's more convincing in his love for Daphne than a lot of straight actors are in similar roles! Of course that's not who DHP is, but I think that's what he is when he's being Niles. And it's not just that, it's there in all of his work-- most prominently in scenes where there's any kind of strong or heavy emotion. Just my two cents, of course, but that's my conclusion about him. :)

I agree with you, I feel like he becomes Niles Crane in every way. In the Winnebago, he looks like his world has come to an end, and I'm sure that's exactly how Niles felt. And then his Goddess walked thru the door and put the sparkle back in his eyes. **Sigh**

That is beautifully put! He really is amazing and I can't say that enough.

I love that scene! I just love the way it's executed. Daphne steps into the Winnebago, Niles looks up and sees her with a shocked look on his face, he stands up and says "Daphne" and the way he looks at her and says it just makes my heart flutter. I can't help but smile with tears in my eyes. Just amazing. :D
I also love the scene in the same episode when he tells Daphne he loves her, just the way he says the line and the way he looks at her. You see it unfold and it just all looks so real and with the look Daphne gives him; like she is going to cry but is in total shock. The way she opens her mouth after he tells her how he feels. Wow. I was just mesmerized.
Nobody could have played those scenes as well as David and Jane, just amazing.
born2late 11-15-2011, 04:51 PM You're spot on Jade. When I compare other tv couples, they just don't measure up, although there have been some great ones over the years. I think the biggest reason is the way Niles looks at Daphne. I don't remember seeing that in other shows. It's like everything else fades away when he looks at her.
Schmoopie 11-16-2011, 03:35 AM I never thought any couple could make me melt more than Jack and Jennifer on Days but Daphne and Niles proved me wrong a thousand times over!
