Ace Frehley, aka the Spaceman, landed in the "Today studios to talk about his life in and out of the glam-rock band, KISS.

Matt Lauer got right to the point: "I think anybody who watched KISS over the years, probably the thought crossed their minds that you guys dabbled in drugs a little bit when they got to see you."

"Well you gotta realize, Studio 54 and that whole scene in Manhattan in the '70s, a lot of people were doing cocaine," Ace responded.

When Matt asked if Ace wanted to share with viewers the codename they used for cocaine, Ace said it was "Betty White" with a giggle.

"When we were going to a party I called up my buddy and asked 'Is Betty going to be there?' and if they said yes then we knew it would be there."

Ace hasn't hung out with "Betty White" in a while: he's been sober for five years.

Ace also told Matt that his relationship with Gene Simmons is "good".

"Me and Gene have a good relationship. I just had lunch with him over at the Beverly Hills Hotel about 5 weeks ago."

Matt mentioned to Ace that in his new book, No Regrets, that he accuses Gene of trying to re-write KISS' history by down-playing his contributions to the band.

Ace said that Matt was correct about that.

When Ace was asked why he didn't confront Gene with that over at their lunch Ace responded, "I wanted to keep it light. I hadn't seen him since the VH1 Rock Honors Award."

When Ace was asked why he departed ways with KISS again, he said:

"You're getting paid for something that you love to do, and when it's not fun anymore it's time to go."
