Was he an interesting enough character to have his own show?

I am assuming that's the same thing CBS was thinking when they shot that backdoor pilot. Either that, or the ratings for the finale were pretty bad. I haven't figured that out yet. lol

Doubtful. Like most characters on sitcoms, Schneider was defined by his relationships with the other principals. It's possible to build that dynamic with new characters, but let's face it, it's very, VERY rare. I liked Schneider too, but I don't think he could have pulled off his own show.

Does anybody know if that is the reason they didn't move forward with his own show?

I don't really know but I never watched that episode and have never seen it. I watched the episode where Ann left and after that I considered the show over.

Nope, LOL
She had moved away with her new husband. The finale was a backdoor pilot with Schneider moving in with his niece and nephew I believe.
