View Full Version : Help Remembering a Case
NellieBlyArmy 11-02-2011, 12:13 PM I've done a search but I can't remember anything that's a particularly unique search term, so I thought I'd ask.
It was a case where a killer broke into a house during the day, stayed in the house for hours and hours, then killed the family while they slept. Does anyone remember this?

At this point, it's not ringing any bells for me. Are you sure it was on UM?
TheCars1986 11-02-2011, 01:33 PM I seem to remember this case happened in a near-vacant house where the people were moving or just had moved in and it happened somewhere in Nevada possibly? It was an African-American family as was the killer. This was definitely on UM.
TheCars1986 11-02-2011, 02:47 PM Some of the details are different from the way you remember, but it might be the Joe Smith case. Here's a link with a breakdown of the case and pictures.

Killarney Rose 11-02-2011, 04:40 PM I think that one recently aired too.
flytrapp 11-02-2011, 09:22 PM I agree with you guys, the only segment I can think of is Joe Smith...
NellieBlyArmy 11-03-2011, 12:04 AM I'm pretty sure it wasn't Joe Smith. It's weird, because I and a friend of mine both remember it, and it was definitely a stranger who hid in the house for several hours while the family went about their lives. He came out of hiding in the middle of the night. I want to say he got in because they'd left the door from the garage unlocked. She recalls that they solved it, and that the perpetrator was a white guy with brown hair and a big mountain-man beard. I know I looked it up about a year ago and found some articles about it, but I've since forgotten the killer's name, so I can't find them again. Maybe it was on a different crime show after all.
TheCars1986 11-03-2011, 08:26 AM That's definitely not ringing any bells. There were very few family massacre segments portrayed on UM (Joe Smith, Donnie Hansen, Rick Church, The Freemans), and I definitely think I would have remembered this one because home invasion stories scare the living daylights out of me.

Would you happen to know where (town and/or state) or when the crime took place? That could help narrow things down a little bit, if not considerably. UM hasn't produced any new episodes since 2002, so if the crime occurred sometime after that year, then it wasn't on UM.

Was it Eva Shoen?

TracyLynnS 11-03-2011, 06:47 PM Was it the case where the ex-husband didn't want to pay child support anymore or something so he video taped himself watching TV in another state (for a timestamped alibi) while he sent a hitman to kill his ex-wife, his bedridden disabled son, and the little boy's nurse? I don't remember the names in that one or if it aired on UM
Here are a few UM cases that don't meet all the criteria but may spark a memory:

You're welcome! :)
They have over 1500 UM cases on that wiki site. You can search by a variety of ways: keywords, case types such as unsolved murders, etc.
Even though I posted a bunch of links, those were just a tiny amount of similar cases to the one you described. I sure hope you find the one you're looking for.
TracyLynnS 11-04-2011, 01:06 PM This little unsolved mystery of our own is interesting. I'd like to make a list of the known facts into one post to see if any of us can remember the case. Please correct me if any of this info is wrong, and I'll edit the list accordingly.
*intruder broke into a house during the day, staying hidden inside until the family went to bed and fell asleep
*kills the family while they are sleeping
*killer may have gained entry to the house by an unlocked garage door
*case may have been solved
*perpetrator may have been a caucasian male with brown hair and large, bushy beard
TracyLynnS 11-04-2011, 01:15 PM BTK broke into people's houses and waited for them to come home before killing them.
Sabrina Aisenberg was abducted from her home in the middle of the night. Perpetrator may have gained entry through an open or unlocked garage door.
The Clutter family (In Cold Blood) were killed in their home by two men during the night.
WishfulDreamer 11-04-2011, 02:07 PM Whoa, I don't remember that axe murdering one at all. When did it air? Was it a rare segment?

I don't recall seeing it on UM either. On the wiki site, it says it was featured on Haunting Evidence, Ghost Lab, and Ghost Adventures.
I do remember seeing it on Ghost Adventures (but not any other programs) which I believe was the first time I'd ever heard of this case.
TheCars1986 11-05-2011, 10:58 AM The only UM segments that I can recall where an entire family was murdered was the Freeman massacre and the Joe Smith segment.
RedBasket 11-07-2011, 06:33 PM Now I want help with a case - I am pretty sure it was UM but I may be wrong:
A caucasion woman who worked as a nurse met a man from the Carribbean and he invited her to dinner with him and his wife. She blabbed all about her menstrual cycle (so he would know when she was fertile) and then when was ovulating, he gave her a drink to knock her out. Then he had sex with her (rape is probably a better word, not sure how consentual she was...but I digress.)
She gave birth to a boy and she named him a typical name but the dude from the carribean (and I am not sure of his origins, either...sorry!) gave him a rather odd name like Freedom or Peace or something.
Turns out he had a harem type thing going and endd up abusing the boy and kidnapping him and the mom has not seen him since he was eight or nine years old.
Any help?
TracyLynnS 11-07-2011, 09:04 PM The lady's name was Judy Olive. Here's a link to the thread where I have some not very nice things to say about her.
