I always felt a great sitcom does a few things to the viewer. First and foremost it constantly entertains,

However, another thing it does is generate interest in visiting the "Location" of where the show was originating from. For example, Boston with Cheers, Minneapolis with The Mary Tyler Moore Show etc.

Did Frasier generate any interest in visiting Seattle, Washington at any time?

When we moved there for three years, I was delighted!!! I have a yahoo group called SeattlesCafeNervosa where I have a photo file called Tracking Frasier. Here are a few pics from that file...

So, in June we're going back. I want to visit the Starbucks on the corner of 3rd and Pike where the show mentions is the location of Cafe Nervosa.

I would definitely visit Seattle all because of Frasier. It looks like a very interesting city. I would hate all the rain but I wouldn't mind visiting. I would love to go in the Space Needle. That is one of my goals in life, to visit Seattle.
I have been to Dallas, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Mount Vernon, Salem, Centralia, and Dix, Illinois. I have been all over Oklahoma. I lived in Salem, Illinois for three months. So my next goal is to go to Seattle, Florida, and Hawaii. :)

Indirectly, yes. Thanks to this show (and my first attempt at Frasier fanfiction), I met one of my best friends. Andrea (Schmoopie) lives just outside Seattle, and I am DYING to go there to visit her! And of course I want to see the places shown in "The 1,000th Show" and such, too.

Well I wasn't watching Frasier back in 1993, but I did see Sleepless in Seattle with my husband on our first date and when we were still dating two years later, he proposed and wanted me to move to Seattle with him. I thought he was crazy but we went to visit for the first time in 1995 and I fell in love with The Emerald City.

After I still couldn't make up my mind about moving, he coaxed me into it by saying "Don't you want to live where your favorite movie took place?" Of course I'd pretty much decided by then that it would be cool to live here (or there as it were).

And I 'knew' about Frasier the whole time I've been living here but of course I never watched it until last December. But I give David Hyde Pierce credit for my wanting to move here since he was in "Sleepless In Seattle."

And by the way, my bus goes by that monorail station every Saturday morning and EVERY Time I look hoping to see Niles standing there, right where Frasier left him on Frasier Crane Day but alas... he's never there.... I think if I actually did see him, I'd jump off that bus so fast my head would spin!

"The 1000th Episode" from which those pictures came, is one of my favorite episodes because I recognized SO many places! One of my friends at work told me that when the cast came here that one of his friends saw John Mahoney walking down the street. OMG, I would have died!

And I don't even want to think about the fact that I was actually living here when they filmed this episode and maybe could have seen some of the cast members...

I decided that if by some miracle I ever get to meet DHP, the first thing I'm going to ask him is how he liked being in Seattle for that episode. I'd love to hear what he thinks about the city his alter-ego lived in for 11 years!

Just to give you a little encouragement... it's really not as hard as you might think to meet some of these people, especially if they are doing Broadway. The next time he does a Broadway show, you need to get yourself to New York City to see the show (and I know that's way far away from Seattle, but it will be worth it!). Check an event calendar first and make sure you go on an evening that it's likely he'll be there and not his understudy (like not a day anywhere near any of the awards shows or any major events for the causes he's involved in or anything like that) and call the theater ahead and ask them if he ever comes out to the lobby after the show. A lot of them do. Then show up early if you can. Celebrities are pretty comfortable in NYC and sometimes they arrive at the theater in a cab and walk right in the front door and you can say hello right then. I've met a few people that way. Then after the show, hang out in the lobby. If they can, they often come out and greet whoever is there. It's usually at least 45 to 60 mins after the show though, so you have to wait for them. There will be other people waiting too. There's always the chance he won't or can't come out after, but I always wait until someone from the theater tells us they're not coming. You just have to hope you didn't hit a night where he had somewhere to go after. Oh, and be sure you have your camera and something for him to autograph, and a permanent marker to autograph with. Then you have to summon up all your courage and approach him (that's so hard!) he might come to you anyway, but it's so frustrating to go all that way, see him right there a few feet in front of you but not get to meet him because you didn't go to him. I am a humongous Who's the Boss? fan, and I've met Judith Light twice this way and Tony Danza once. Both of them spoke with us, signed autographs for us, and allowed us to have our pictures taken with them. Ms Light was especially friendly and asked us our names and some other questions, and made conversation with us. You could see how much she values her fans. I've also said hello to Katherine Helmond as she was leaving the theater after her show-- she came out the front door and got into a cab and was very friendly and cordial to us. It seems from interviews I've seen that DHP is a very nice person so I can't imagine he'd be any different. I also know that he is good friends with Judith Light-- and I know firsthand how great she is-- so I betcha he's great too. And you're making me want to go and meet him now too. :lol: I just wanted to give you some encouragement because I never in a million years thought I'd be able to meet the people from one of my favorite shows ever-- more than once even-- and the memories from when I met them are so treasured... plus now I have nice pictures hanging on my walls to remember.

Oh, one more thing... if you just can't get to New York City, then get a blank greeting card and handwrite a message inside telling him how much you wanted to see the show but couldn't make it and that you are a fan. Say whatever you want to say to him-- that you liked him in Frasier, that you like his singing, whatever, but be sincere and let him know you're a fan. Mark the outside of the envelope *fan mail,* address it to him, c/o the name of the theater, then mail it to the theater during the run of his show. Be sure your return address is clearly written on the envelope or inside the card. He'll get the card and he'll probably send you an autographed picture or an autographed program or something similar, too. But be patient-- sometimes it's months later. You can ask for a picture if you want, but I've received some autographed stuff this way from celebrities doing Broadway shows without even asking for anything. It's worth a try, and if they value their fans, are fairly down-to-earth, and can find a moment, they'll probably send you something. Even if they don't, it's nice to know he read your words and that you got to tell him how great you think he is. Good luck! :)
