Metallica 3D Feature Film in the Works
by Gregory Burkart
10/26/11

According to a new report from Deadline Hollywood, metal juggernauts Metallica are working out a plan to self-finance their first feature film in 3D.

Details are still vague about the content of the film itself, but one thing we do know is that the band has already hired a producer for the project, so it looks like the wheels are definitely in motion.

According to Deadline.com reporter Mike Fleming, the band members recently hired producer Charlotte Huggins, whose credits in 3D filmmaking include Journey to the Center of the Earth and its recently completed sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

They are now searching for a director "with the stones to direct a Metallica-style feature."

If this project pans out, it will be the first Metallica film with the band in creative control.

Their last major feature film appearance was the award-winning 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster, produced and co-directed by Joe Berlinger (who is currently shooting the doc Raising Hell: The Visions of Clive Barker), and that film famously explored the band members' personal lives and their often turbulent relationships.

There's no word yet on what exactly this new film will feature.

By: Jonny B.

Metallica has decided to take to their website to tackle an ongoing rumor regarding the possibility of an upcoming 3D movie, which they indeed confirm.

Metallica in 3D?

January 6, 2012

Happy New Year!!! As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news.

So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works.

We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet.

What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.

Welcome to 2012... we're pretty psyched about the year ahead!

Metallica Announce Title and Release Date of Upcoming 3D Movie
by JonathanBarkan
January 15, 2013

Metal legends Metallica have announced that their upcoming 3D film will be titled Metallica Through The Never and will be released theatrically on Aug. 9th. The film was written and directed by Nimród Antal (Predators) and stars Dane DeHaan (Chronicle).

The story follows DeHaan as he “…plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down.”

The film will be the first new release from Picturehouse after their reopening with founder Bob Berney at the helm.

Metallica states:

“Like your friends in ‘Tallica, Picturehouse is truly independent, take big chances and often think outside of the box. Founder Bob Berney has overseen the releases of two of the most successful independent films ever, ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ’, as well as many other cutting-edge, critically acclaimed and award-winning films.

It goes without saying that we are really just getting rolling here and will have many more updates for you. And of course, we can’t wait for you to see the film!”

Berney adds:

“Nim and the band have made a film that really captures the spirit of Metallica and their millions of loyal fans. It’s an entertaining genre film with a concert inside it, a fun ride featuring an exciting young actor, Dane DeHaan. It’s a very cool project to reboot Picturehouse with.”

Drummer Lars Ulrichs comments:

“Metallica’s way of doing things is to jump into unexplored creative endeavors with no safety net whatsoever. Putting this movie together for the last couple of years has been a pretty wild ride, and we’ve definitely done our share of flying without a net!

Bringing Bob and Jeanne and the new Picturehouse team in at this point provides us with a much needed level of security for the distribution of the film. Their spirit of independence and desire to work outside the box is something we can relate to in every way, and this makes them both a welcome addition and a natural fit in the Metallica family.”

Metallica Releases Details on Upcoming 3D Film
by JonathanBarkan
April 25, 2013

Heavy metal legends Metallica have announced that their 3D film, Metallica Through The Never, will be released September 27th in N. America as a limited engagement in IMAX theaters. The film will expand one week later on October 4th.

The film was written and directed by Nimród Antal and produced by Charlotte Huggins.

Drummer Lars Ulrich comments, “IMAX! It doesn’t get bigger or cooler than that!. For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought. ‘Hey look, Mom, I’m 50 feet tall (finally!)’

There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience.”
