Is TBBT the 1st sitcom to show that nerds can be cool? If yes, would you consider that groundbreaking?

In as much as the nerds are the main characters in the show rather than the goofy friend or the comic relief yes TBBT is a groundbreaking sitcom.

I thought so, Marv, but wasn't sure. Thank you for your opinion. I know it might sound weird that Big Bang is groundbreaking, but since its premiere, more and more "Nerdy" characters have come to the forefront as being cool...Case in point, "New Girl."

I just watched part of this show last night and found it hilarious so I can't wait to get the DVD's from Netflix and watch it from the beginning. But just the premise seems to be groundbreaking, IMO. I was at Olive Garden with my husband one night and the waiter and I started talking about Frasier. He said that he likes intelligent shows like Frasier and The Big Bang Theory. I told him that I'd never seen "Big Bang Theory" and from the way he was going on and on about it, my interest was peaked.

I have tried watching this show a couple times and have never found it funny at all. Which is too bad because I like Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco. And I never realized that those guys are supposed to be cool.
